The sunlight streaming through the window woke April with a start. She groggily turned her head to look at the clock on the bedside table. Her heart dropped.
“Oh no, no, no!” she muttered, scrambling out of bed. “I’m late! I’m doomed!”
She snatched her phone from the nightstand, her eyes widening as she saw several missed calls from Gina.
“Gina’s going to kill me. She must have come around to pick me up earlier!” April groaned, racing to the bathroom.
“I’m so getting on Richard’s bad list on my second day at work. Why am I so stupid!” She kept mumbling to herself, her body almost shaking from anxiety.
She took the quickest shower of her life, the water barely warm as she scrubbed herself clean. “This cannot be happening. Second day at work, and I’m late!”
