I went out of Evo’s cabin after that call that I had with his mother. And yes, I figured out that it was his Mother when I had heard how much she misses him, and I could also clearly remember the last sentence that she had said before she had turned the call off.
“Mother really misses you, you know?”
Those were the words that I have heard from her. Those were the words that made me even more shaken up than I ever did before. Those were the words that made me feel frightened as I could not believe that I heard something like that from a single phone call.
It felt like it had revealed everything that I wanted to know all this time. It felt like in a single phone call, all the questions that I had on my mind the night before was gone and was replaced by countless of doubts and fear as I did not know if I should believe it or not.
I even thought that it was too impossible to be the truth that I wanted to know, but then again, as time goes by that I was only listening to every words that that woman was saying, my heart beats faster than it ever did before as dread suddenly consumed me.
I could still clearly remember every single words that she had said to me, that was intended for her son that was supposed to be dead but was on this place with me. Those words kept on replaying into my mind as I did not know if I should believe it or not, because, really, never in my life I have ever thought that something like this would happen to me - I never thought that I would ever hear something like that from a certain person that I just accidentally listened to.
I did not know what to feel, really, because I was thorned on believing every words that she had said or if I should just forget everything that I had heard and pretend that it never happened. After all, any sane person would think that it was too impossible to happen. To be prank, anyone would think that I just came up with that kind of story and would never really believe me if I would tell them everything that I have heard earlier.
I think that no one would ever believe that I just heard those words from that person. I think that they would just think that I was a crazy person that was coming up with a story that was too unbelievable to be the truth. I knew that no one would be able to believe if I would confess every words that I have heard from that woman, whom I knew was Evo’s mother.
“It has been five years, but I still could not believe what had happened.” I remembered those words from that woman when I was about to hang up the call because I was already too shaken up, but I was stopped as I listened to what she was about to say to the other line. “I still could not believe that that one single incident would take you away from me, from us.”
I heard how that woman broke down as though she could not take it any longer. She sobbed and sobbed, and I could not make myself to say something - something that would tell her that I was not Evo, that I was just a person who have accidentally encountered that phone... something that would stop the words that she was trying to say to me, but I never did that.
I was not able to do anything at all. I was not able to say any single words as I kept on listening to her sobs as my heart has been broken for her. My heart could not take how lonely she was because of whatever that had happened to Evo. I could not bear to hear those painful sobs from her, but at the same time, I was not able to say any single thing at all because I was too frightened on what she was about to say if I did so.
I was too frightened to find out what she had to say to me, if ever I would say that Evo was with me, with us. I was too frightened because I knew that I had already figured out that she would just say that it was too impossible to happen, because she claimed that he was gone and he would never come back.
I even thought that she must have been mistaken that he was dead, because I was literally with him in the Lost Soul’s Forest, but then again, I clearly remembered that one sentence that she had said that made me fear about what has been happening as of this moment. I feared that it might be really the truth, because of those words that she had said to me as though I was really Evo and not another person.
“We went to your grave, you know?” I trembled as soon as I heard those words from her and I tried so hard not to say anything at all as I already knew that it was bound to cause too many problems that I needed to face, and I thought that I did not need any more problem than I had as of this moment. “It has been five years, but we still could not believe that scene that we had saw when that accident was reported to us by the school.”
I did not know how long I have been listening to her words. I did not know how long I have been pretending so that I would be able to know everything that she had to say to the supposed to be dead Evo. I did not know how long I have been hearing those unbelievable words, because it felt like I was in daze because of the revelations that I had heard from that person.
I just noticed that the line had already been cut off when I snapped out of my thoughts and saw that the phone was already dead. It seems like it was not charged for a long time, which made it cut the call. It seems like its battery percentage was not enough and f*rcefully cut off the call that I still wanted to listen to, and at the same time, the very same call that I did not want to have any longer.
I did not know what had happened right after that. I did not know how long I had decided to stay inside of his cabin, before I had finally decided that I had enough and I should just get inside of my room because I was too afraid of what could possibly happen once they found out that I had received that kind of call from that person.
I walked and walked, without any sense of direction. Even though my cabin was just twenty steps away from where I was earlier, I still did not go inside as I walked aimlessly towards the direction that I did not really know.
It was like I was not on my right mind. Even though I wanted to take a rest because I think that everything would be back to normal once again after a long hour of sleep, and even though I just wanted to forget everything, I still did not walked straight to my cabin as I kept on walking towards the direction that I really did not have any idea on where it would take me.
I just snapped out of my thoughts once again when I felt that someone had tapped me on my shoulder, which made me feel startled as my thoughts were occupied by that phone call and the what ifs that I had on my mind.
“Sorry, I did not mean to startle you, young miss,” a voice of a woman said, which made me look behind me and that was when I had seen the owner of the Lost Soul’s Forest.
I could vaguely remember her, but I think that I have seen her the very first time that we took a step inside the park. I think that she was one of those few people that had greeted us as though they were really delighted that we were here, and that we had chosen the Lost Soul’s Forest as our destination.
“Is there something that you wanted from me?” I asked her as I tried to calm myself down, because it felt like I was too frightened because of that one phone call and I was not able ot function that well any longer.
It felt like my mind was too occupied with everything that I had found out earlier, and that made me feel like a different person as of this moment. It felt like I was still in daze, and I doubt that I would be able to wake myself up because I really could still not believe any single thing at all.
It felt like a dream, a nightmare to be exact, because I knew that this was too impossible to be the truth. I wanted to make myself believe that this was not the reality, but then again, it seems like there was thousands of ways for me to be reminded that this was all the truth and everything that had happened earlier was not just in my illusion.
“I just wanted to thank all of you because you had chosen this place once again.” I frowned when I heard the words ‘once again’ on her as though this was not the very first time that we had went on this place. “We are really grateful that you once again came back from this place, after five long years.”
I frowned even more when I had heard those words from her, and I became so shaken up once again because I could clearly remembered that she was not the only person that had mentioned about something that had happened on this place five years ago.
I could remember that it was mentioned by Evo’s mother earlier, and I knew that I have also heard about that incident to Ms. Madison - and I could still remember that she could not control her emotions while mentioning what had happened five years ago.
It seems like whatever it was, it was really a big deal for everyone. It was like some kind of incident that they never expected to happen, an incident that no one believed that had happened, and up until now, it was still an incident that could not accept and would never accept any time soon.
It seems like i was the only person who did not know anything about it. It seems like I was the only person that was clueless about that thing, and somehow... somehow, I wanted to know what had really happened.
I wanted to know what had happened on this place five years ago, which was still a hot topic for these people all around me. I wanted to figure out everything that had happened on that day, because even though I refused to say it, I already knew that it was connected to what has been happening as of this moment. I knew that it had something to do with the people whom I though I knew, but I guess I was only f*oling myself as I thought of that.
I was about to open my mouth to speak and ask this woman in front of me about what she knew about that incident, but then again, before I could even open my mouth to speak, I had seen a person behind her that made me feel frightened once again as I thought of the things that i have heard in the phone call earlier.
“Grandma!”
It was Evo, the person that was missing earlier and did not even go to his room even though his phone was ringing. It was him, and I had almost trembled as my eyes widen when I saw the thing that he was holding while he was waving at the woman that I was about to talk to, just a minute before he suddenly came out of nowhere.
“Oh? Evo!” I focused my attention on this old woman in front of me as I saw how she suddenly got delighted when she had seen Evo. “I thought you were with them? Are you not supposed to find someone? Who was it again?”
I saw how his smile faltered when he had heard that from the woman he was talking to, before he slightly shook his head. I saw how his enthusiastic smile suddenly turned into a sad one as though what she had asked him had greatly affected him.
“It seems like he was not here anymore,” he said in a sad tone, before our eyes met and I saw how his eyes widen in shock as though he did not realized that I was also in this kind of place at this kind of time. “Liana...”
He was about to go near me, but I took a step backwards as fear suddenly crept up into me. He hesitated for a moment when he saw how I acted as soon as he had greeted me, and I saw how his hands that was holding his phone, which was supposed to be on his room but somehow it was already on his hands, had suddenly dropped as though he had realized that something was wrong with me.
“Liana...” There was a hint of hesitation on his voice, as he went near me once again, but I was too shaken up with the thought that he would go near me that was why I took a step backwards once again.
“Do not go near me!” I shouted at him, and I saw how he got shocked because of that. He was about to go near me once again, but I already turned my back towards him as I prepared to run until I would reach my cabin. “Do not ever go near me...” I whispered as I finally ran, full speed, towards my room.
I did not pay any attention on his shouts any longer. I did not turn my head towards his direction, even though I knew that he was so confused on how I suddenly acted as soon as I had seen his face.
I could not stop myself though. I could not make myself stop from feeling this scared towards him, because those words from that caller kept on coming back inside of my head. It kept on replaying, to the point that I was too shaken up to even think of talking to any of them as of this moment.
I run and run, until I reached my cabin. I did not even bother to take a breath as I hastily locked the door of my room as though I was afraid that someone would enter if I did not do so. I ran towards my bed as I covered myself with a blanket, my hands were trembling because of the fright that I was feeling as of this moment.
I did not stand up when I heard that there was someone knocking on my door. I did not do anything at all, as I covered myself even more as though I was afraid that they would be able to find me and do something towards me, which made me feel even more shaken up than I ever had before.
“Liana!” I flinched when I had heard Evo’s voice, and trembled when I heard that there were countless of knocks behind my door as though he was not the only one that was behind my door and was waiting for me to open it. “Please, open the door!” he said, but I clutched my blanket even more as I felt myself trembling with fear once again.
“Leave me alone!” I shouted at them as my voice cracked and as I held the blanket even much tighter than before. “Leave alone, please,” I whispered as I held my head as though I was already confused of everything that has been happening as of this moment.
It was as though I was already out of my mind and did not know what to do about it any longer. It was as though I did not know if I still would be able to take it, or if I had really gone crazy because of everything that had happened up until now. It was almost like I was already too shaken up and could not do anything any longer, aside from locking myself up on my own room.
I heard their knocks once again, which made me flinch as I whispered, “Leave alone, please.”
