Claire's heart had gone cold, but Theo pointed at the person inside with an excited face.
"Mommy, that's the handsome man who took me downstairs. Look."
Claire barely managed a sound of acknowledgment and touched his head. "Mommy sees him."
"Mommy, the handsome man helped me. Should we go thank him?"
"No need." Claire's voice sounded a little rough. "He won't remember us."
Theo tilted his head. He didn't understand.
"Then his memory is really bad. We only met him this afternoon."
