Maddie’s POV:
I see darkness… that’s all… nothing else… where’d Dylan go? My mom? Am I dead? What even happened to me?
“Hey my little bumblebee,” I hear a comforting voice.
“Dad?” I ask, turning around.
“Hey, Pumpkin,” He says, holding his arms out for me.
“Dad,” I scream, running into his arms and letting my tears fall. “I… I thought I would never see you again,” I say, hugging him even tighter.
“I know… but… I’m afraid to tell you you’re going to have to leave sooner than you want… it’s not your time…” He tells me.
“But… dad,” I say.
“Maddie…” He says, holding my shoulders as he looks down at me with his blue eyes. “I love you past the moon… but you need to stay on earth… Dylan needs you… your mother needs you… Look,” He says, pointing up… that’s when I see them… Dylan looks pale… weak… and tear streaks are running down his cheeks… his eyes are puffy and red… Gen… she looks paler than usual… I can see that she’s been crying… but she covered it up by washing her face and a little makeup… I know how it feels like to stay strong for the other person… that’s what I did for my mom… and Gen is doing it for her son… “Maddie?” My dad says.
“What?” I ask, still looking up.
“I said… I think it’s time for you to wake up,” He repeats himself.
“Please… not yet… can we catch up… I just don’t want to leave you yet,” I whisper.
“Just a little bit,” He says with a small smile.
“Thank you,” I say, wrapping my arms around him again. I look up and find my mom and Gen hugging… I’m glad they met… they really could use each other in this unpleasant world.
“Pumpkin… you know… I’ll always be in here,” He pokes me in my chest where my heart is… “And I won’t be leaving anytime soon… plus… I need to make sure my little Princess stays out of trouble… don’t I?” He asks, making a smile slowly make its way onto my lips.
“Thank you dad,” I say, hugging him once again.
“Thank you for being the best daughter in my life,” He says, pulling away. “But I believe it’s time to stop making your loved ones worry… don’t you agree?” He asks, smirking at me. I didn’t even think my dad could smirk.
“I do agree… thank you, papa… and I promise you that I will never forget you as long as I live… Te amos, Papa,” I say before walking away from him. As I walk away, I look back for a minute only to find him nowhere to be seen… He’s always been as quiet as a ninja.
