In The Soul in Transit, there’s a section about the reasons for resurrection.
That ancient scholar Mrs. Mayer mentioned before—Maimonides—said that resurrection allows a soul another opportunity to mature and attain a higher level of relationship to God.
Maybe that’s what I’m missing. Maybe I was supposed to come down from the gray space and immediately embrace my religion and find God with my new mature soul.
The book goes on to talk about all the resurrection stories in the Bible. In the Old Testament, there’s Ezekiel’s vision of going to the Valley of Dry Bones. God breathes the breath of life into the bones, and immediately sinews start to grow, knitting the bones back together. Then the organs, the skin, and soon the bones are all living, breathing humans.
