CHAPTER THREE- SHATTERED SILENCE

1566 Words
Aria; The forest was unusually quiet, though my senses screamed otherwise. Every leaf, every rustle, every scent seemed amplified, pressing at my thoughts. My wolf clawed relentlessly beneath my skin, and I could barely breathe without feeling the echo of him..Darius. The memory of his silver eyes, sharp and piercing, haunted me, even after the border encounter yesterday. Lysandra walked beside me, her boots brushed the soft ground as she walked. Her calm presence was an anchor, and yet even she couldn’t soothe the tension gripping me. “Aria,” she said softly, nudging my arm, “you’ve been quiet since we left the clearing. Something’s wrong.” I clenched my fists around the hilt of my dagger, forcing a smile. “I’m fine,” I lied, voice tighter than I intended. Her eyes, warm and unyielding, scanned me like she could see through every lie I told. “You’ve been saying that for weeks,” she said, shaking her head. “You’re hiding something.” I wanted to tell her. I wanted to scream about the way he haunted my every thought, how my body betrayed me, how the pull of our bond left me trembling at night. But I couldn’t. Not yet. “I can’t,” I whispered, more to myself than to her. My wolf growled in agreement, claws scratching at the edges of my sanity. Lysandra hesitated but didn’t push. She had always understood when I needed space, though her eyes never left mine. We walked in silence until we reached the clearing, where training would begin. Darius; I had been watching her since dawn. The mist hung low in the forest, yet even through it, her scent cut through everything else. My wolf thrashed beneath my skin, snarling in frustration. She was too close, yet so far. Every pulse of her heart, every subtle shift of her body called to me, demanding that I close the distance. Kael, ever vigilant, kept a hand on my shoulder. “Stop,” he said quietly, his voice steady. “You’re crossing a line.” “I can’t,” I muttered, jaw tight. “She’s mine. She doesn’t know it yet, but she is. And I can’t wait any longer without knowing if she will fight or surrender.” Kael shook his head. “You’re obsessing over her. You need control, Darius, or this will end in disaster.” I ignored him. Control had nothing to do with it. Every fiber of my being screamed for her. Every instinct demanded that I mark her, claim her, make her mine. But I held back. She had to come to it herself, or we would both break. Aria; By noon, we were in the clearing, the sun piercing through the trees in scattered beams. Lysandra had already drawn her dagger and was practicing swift, precise movements. I forced myself to mirror her, though my mind was elsewhere. Every swing, every pivot, every step reminded me of the border yesterday. Of the way he had looked at me, silver eyes flashing with unspoken intent. I shook my head violently, trying to chase the image from my mind. My wolf whimpered, frustrated, and I pressed my palms to my face. I hated how much I wanted him. “Focus, Aria,” Lysandra snapped lightly, though her tone carried worry. “You’re letting your thoughts wander. Your stance is weak.” I straightened, forcing my muscles to respond. But my wolf thrashed beneath my skin. Every motion betrayed the tension building inside me. My chest burned, my palms sweated, and I could feel him before I even heard a sound, the subtle shift in the forest, the faint pressure against the air, the pull of his presence. I froze mid-step, every nerve screaming. Silver eyes glittering between the trees. He hadn’t moved, yet I could feel him. My wolf growled low, claws digging into my insides, demanding release. I wanted to turn and run. I wanted to flee. But my legs moved on their own, drawn forward despite my mind’s protests. “Aria,” his voice came, soft, sliding across the wind like a caress. I stopped, breath catching, heart hammering. I wanted to tell him to go. To disappear. To leave me in peace. Yet.. Something inside me ached to reach for him. Darius; I watched her, every movement, every breath. Her wolf screamed for me across the distance, testing my restraint. I wanted to step forward, throw aside the shadows that separated us, and claim her. But I didn’t. Kael’s hand rested on my arm, steadying me. “She’s aware,” he said quietly. “You should act before this bond consumes both of you.” I shook my head. “She’s not ready. She has to accept it on her own. I can’t force her. Kael didn’t argue. His amber eyes were steady, but the tension in his jaw betrayed the warning I didn’t need to hear. My wolf roared beneath my skin, demanding her, needing her. And still, I held back, every fiber of my body straining against the invisible leash of patience. Aria; The day dragged on. Training, drills, patrols near the border, every second was torture. I could feel him near, even when I didn’t see him. My wolf howled in frustration every time I blinked, every time I caught the faintest whiff of his presence in the air. By late afternoon, Lysandra suggested a rest. “Let’s sit,” she said, motioning to a patch of grass near the river that cut through the forest. “You’ve been on edge since dawn. You need water and you need to breathe.” I sat, pulling my knees to my chest, letting the cool grass press against my skin. Lysandra handed me a water flask. “You’re hiding it, aren’t you?” she asked gently. I stared at the river, fingers tightening around the leather strap. “Hiding what?” I said, voice trembling. Her amber eyes bore into mine. “Him,” she said simply. “Darius. I can feel it too. Your wolf is screaming, Aria.” I froze, unable to speak. My wolf pressed closer, desperate, and for a moment, the world shrank to nothing but his presence, the pull of his gaze, the fire he ignited in me. “I… I can’t,” I whispered. “I shouldn’t want him. I hate him. I…” “You don’t hate him,” Lysandra interrupted softly. “You don’t have to say it. I can see the truth in your eyes. You’re fighting it, yes. But it’s there. And it’s dangerous.” I swallowed, torn between guilt and desire. “If anyone finds out…” She nodded. “I know. That’s why I’m here. But you can’t keep ignoring this, Aria. Not forever.” Darius; The sun dipped lower, casting long shadows across the forest. I lingered at the border, watching her from a distance. She was vulnerable, yet strong, a contradiction that drove my wolf mad. Every fiber of her being called to me, screamed for me, even as she resisted. Kael’s voice broke the silence. “You’re losing yourself in her, Darius. This isn’t just about her. It’s about control. Restraint. Patience.” “I know,” I growled, eyes never leaving her. “And…every second I wait makes it worse.” Kael’s eyes narrowed. “One wrong move, Alpha, and you’ll destroy what could be beautiful. Do not let your wolf make the decisions for you.” I didn’t respond. My wolf snarled beneath my skin, desperate and unyielding. I clenched my fists, jaw tight. She was too far away, yet the pull between us was undeniable. And soon, I knew, the bond would force our hands. Aria; Night fell with a soft hush over the forest. I sat by the river, watching the water flow over stones, trying to calm my racing heart. My wolf clawed at me relentlessly, desperate, insistent. Every shadow seemed to flicker with silver eyes. Every whisper of the wind carried his presence. I closed my eyes, trying to remember the drills, the patrols, the lessons in control. But even in the darkness, I could feel him close, nearer than I should have allowed. My wolf pressed, claws digging deep, and I gasped, heart hammering. Then I saw movement across the riverbank, just a shadow at first. My breath caught. My wolf snarled, nails digging. I held my dagger, ready, though I knew… I wouldn’t strike him. I couldn’t. He stepped into the moonlight. Silver eyes. Tight muscles. Every inch of him is predatory and perfect. My wolf cried out in need. Darius. He tilted his head, watching me. My breath hitched, pulse racing. I wanted to run. I wanted to collapse. I wanted to throw myself into his arms. And then he smiled a small, almost private smile meant only for me. I stepped back instinctively, but my wolf pushed forward anyway. And for the first time, I felt it: the bond wasn’t just in me anymore. It was in him too. The air between us pulsed with heat and tension. And before I could think or control it, our hands brushed, fingers grazing, electricity sparking through both of us. I gasped, heart leaping, and he didn’t pull away. The forest held its breath. And then, from the shadows behind me.. Came the whispers.
