CHAPTER 3 – A Hint of Trouble

1334 Words
I Thorin with his thick eyeglasses walked slowly and head down, in their University corridor. He is unaware that a group of four vicious male vampires saw him already as an easy target; their next victim. “Where did he live?” One male vampire asked. “Oh, just nearby, in the male dormitory where I am staying, a few kilometers from here.” The other male vampire replied. “Great, he would be an easy prey for us.” Said the other vampire, who seemed to be so sure of himself. “Yap, we just need one perfect timing to suck his blood,” said the male vampire who spoke first. Galadriel, who was also walking, about to pass the four groups of vampires clearly heard everything that they had said. Although she could not pinpoint who they were talking about as she could see students scattered in every corner of the university. Galadriel shot the four male vampires with such color of her eyes, akin to a set of fire. The four male vampires were shocked as they noticed that look from that pretty woman who just passed them by. “Oh boy, her look is different and she looks yummy.” The first vampire exclaimed. “Yes, but you are not allowed to touch her. He is Ethos’ target, our Supremo’s son.” “I see; good for her. She will be spared from my venom.” The first vampire replied while laughing. All of those words have been clearly heard by Galadriel and Alesha, who both growled, despising the vampires. Galadriel went to her locker to get some of her things; she was however once again blocked by Ethos when she was almost running to her first subject. “Hello Baby doll. You are getting late to your first subject?” Ethos greeted Galadriel; a wide smile plastered on his lips. “Yes, I am late already, so move your ass away from my path.” Galadriel hissed at Ethos, but the latter seemed not ready to listen. He even moved closer to Galadriel trying to enthrall her with his vampire's eyes. Surprisingly, however, Ethos’ attempt to enthrall Galadriel has no effect on her. Ethos moved back with eyes squinting now on Galadriel. “What kind of species are you?” Ethos asked while trying to snuffle Galadriel’s scent. “None of your business; move aside now!” Galadriel commanded him but to her surprise, Ethos grabbed her right arm and was about to kiss her but the nearby trash can came flying, hitting Ethos’ head. Galadriel used that moment to escape from Ethos. Ethos was so confused about how the trash can hit him, where in fact, no one is around except him and Galadriel. He followed Galadriel with a quizzical look. “Who are you Galadriel?” he whispered. Thorin controlled his laughter after seeing the trash can hit Ethos’ back. When he saw Ethos turn his back, going to the locker, he came near his own locker and acted as if he was trying to search for something inside it. Ethos walked into the locker beside Thorin and almost bumped him. “Stay away geek!” Agitated, he snarled at Thorin, who just shrugged his shoulders while looking at the door of Ethos’ locker. Thereupon, Ethos shouted in pain as his locker’s door suddenly closed hard, almost crushing his fingers stuck in it. Good thing he is a vampire with self-healing power, otherwise, he might be walking around the university with a bandage in his left hand. II On her last subject in the afternoon; a group of student leaders knocked on their classroom door. “Oh by the way class, our student council will be announcing something today. Please listen carefully.” Their biology I, subject Professor, who is an old man with an almost balding head informed them. “Hello, freshman Biology class; my apology for disturbing your class. By the way, we are here to inform you that the University’s search for its “Ambassadress of Goodwill'' will be happening late next month. The beauty pageant will be held, simultaneously with the University’s celebration of its foundation day. So, your group should choose someone to represent your year and course.” The Student Council President announced with excitement in her voice. “Wow!” Some ladies inside the room squealed. The Student Council President continued, “So, whoever is your recommended contestant, please submit it with us. We have different boxes inside our Student Council’s office with labels of different years and courses. You can put your vote there.” Everyone inside the room nodded and clapped their hands, excitedly. When the group of the Student Council left their room, everyone was asking who they were going to vote as their representative. Most of the biology students looked at Galadriel, who is sitting on the chair at the end side of the third row, with smiles on their faces. “Hmm, I guessed you have chosen someone already.” Their professor started with a smile on his face as he shot Galadriel with an admiring look also. Galadriel’s forehead furrowed when she realized that her classmates were now staring at her including their professor. “Hey, not me, please. I don’t have any passion for beauty contests!” she exclaimed in refusal while laughing. Her classmates shook their heads however and gave each other their thumbs-up including their Professor. “Alright class, your votes are important. So don’t forget to put them inside the box as your Student Council President has mentioned. “Yes Sir!” The classroom was filled by the students’ simultaneous replies except Galadriel who remained silent. As she walked to her boarding house, Galadriel sensed that someone has been following her. She looked around and from a distance she saw Thorin walking, following her. She frowned and waited for him to walk near her. Thorin saw that Galadriel suddenly stopped and posed beside the street as if waiting for him. Thorin laughed at himself thinking that such a pretty woman will be waiting for him. But indeed, he was right; Galadriel has been waiting for him to pass by. When Thorin was near already, Galadriel squinted; eyes fixed on Thorin. As usual, Thorin is wearing his thick eyeglasses and backpack and he walks lamely. “Thorin!” she called him. Thorin was surprised as he looked at her. “Yes? You need something from me?” he asked shyly, pointing himself with his right pointer finger. “Yes, I need something from you. Please come closer.” Galadriel said without any smile on her face. Thorin did as requested by Galadriel. “Yes, Miss.” He said smiling. “Thorin, I know you could feel that we have some sort of, err, connections, am I right?” She asked, almost stammering, still not smiling. Thorin again was surprised. “Yes, I felt it the first time we bumped each other,” he replied with confidence this time. He was thinking that maybe Galadriel felt the same way with him. “I felt that too, but I would not want to entertain it. Please do the same.” Galadriel said that it booms over Thorin’s heart. But still, Thorin asked, “But why? Is it not wonderful to feel something like that?” his voice was filled with sadness. “It is wonderful, yes; but not for me. I wanted someone, not like you; I mean, Oh sorry; I guess we are just not meant to be.” Then Galadriel excused herself and walked away. Thorin’s world almost crashed down. His heartfelt the pain that he once felt when his parents died simultaneously when they drowned, together with their friends, who were with them in their newly bought yacht at that time. It was three years ago, but the pain still lingers in every core of his being. It is excruciating and this is what he felt upon hearing Galadriel’s words.
