NADIA'S POV
The bell rang finally, sharp and precise. I didn't wait for the noise to die before I stood.
My chest was tight, anger racing beneath my skin like live wires. Whispers followed me as I walked out of the class, but I didn't care.
I was too upset and pissed to even be bothered by them.
Without thinking twice, I headed right to his office.
“Professor Theodore Whitmore.”
The name on the door seemed to calm for the storm brewing inside of me..
I knocked once and hard.
“Come in,” his voice came from inside as if had been expecting me, steady as ever.
I pushed the door open and stepped on, slamming it shut behind me.
“This is unfair. Totally unfair and you know it,” I hurled the words at him before I realized it.
He looked up slowly from his desk, one brow lifting. He didn't look surprised and neither did he pretend to be.
He looked prepared.
“Close the door properly. You seem to forget this is an office.”
“I did,” I snapped.
“Now, lock it.
My fingers hesitated, but only for a short while. I turned the lock through it, listening to the click make a loud sound.
“You paired me with Adrien on purpose. Why so cruel?” The words slipped through my lips, again.
“And don't you tell me this is for academic balance because it isn't. This is punishment.”
He stood, the movement alone causing my heart to jump. “Lower your voice,” he said calmly. “You're in my office.”
“That didn't stop you from humiliating me in front of everyone, did it?”
He took another step forward, then another.
I retreated without meaning to, until my back brushed against the door. There was nowhere else to run to.
Theo placed one hand beside my head, his palm flat against the wood.
The air shifted, my chest pounding hard.
“You think I enjoyed humiliating you?” He asked, his voice a quiet whisper.
“Oh yes,” I fired back. “You looked like you enjoyed it a great deal.”
His jaw tightened as my gaze locked on him, unflinching.
“I looked like a man trying to keep control. There's a difference.”
I chuckled, my eyes rolling. A soft hiss rolled through my lips.
He leaned closer, not touching but close enough that I could feel his warmth. His scent hit me right at once. Familiar and inviting.
He laughed, his white teeth bared at me. “You marched in here like you forgot who held you together when you were breaking?”
“Oh, you did?” My voice dripped with sarcasm.
“Yes, I freaking did,” he responded, voice stern.
“I was with you through the night and helped you calm down when another man shattered your heart. You don't remember?”
“No, I don't.” My breath caught as bile rose to my throat. I struggled to keep my gaze on him now.
He moved closer until only inches separated us. “Who is it that you left you so heartbroken?”
“It's none of your business.”
“It freaking is, and you're going to yell me.” He barked, sending chills down my spine.
“David!”
“Who's David?” He seemed curious, his brows creasing. “And don't you tell me it's none of my business because it freaking became mine when you trembled in my arms.”
Tears burned in my eyes. I couldn't keep calm anymore. “He rejected me, and in front of everyone.”
Theo straightened slightly, anger flashing in his eyes.
“That doesn't explain him, does it?”
“He was the one laughing yesterday.”
“Oh, the fool?”
I didn't answer. He leaned forward again. “You'll stay away from Adrien,” he said abruptly.
I blinked. “What?”
“You heard me right. If you went to pass my class, you will stay away from him and every other guy. No private meetings or accidental collisions.”
“Never! You can't control who I talk to.”
“True, but I can control your grades and your project. If I were you, I'd chose wisely.”
A knock rang on the door just then. Theo squinted, his eyes softening. He placed a finger over his lips, signalling that I keep mute.
“Professor Whitmore?” A familiar voice called.
“It's David.” The stranger added.
My blood froze. Theo's hands shot out, gripping my waist gently but firmly.
“Hide now! Under the desk.”
“What?” I was dumfounded.
“Do you want him to see you?”
I shook my head, lips pouting.
“Then do as I freaking say.” he guided me down, his hand lingering just enough to arouse me.
I crawled under the desk, my heart hammering so loud I was sure David would hear it.
Theo opened the door and David walked in. He cleared his throat, then began, “I wanted to properly introduce myself. Didn't know we'd have a new professor in town.”
“I go where I'm needed,” Theo responded, voice cold. “What can I do for you?”
David laughed lightly. “There's a girl I thought to warn you about. She's a whole lot of trouble, trust me.”
“Okay? And who's she?”
“The girl I just dumped. You know her a lot in class. Nadia.”
“I see..”
“She's quite unstable emotionally and might cause issues.”
I felt sick, anger welling quickly inside of me. How dare he? After all he did to me? The audacity!!!
“Thanks for informing me. I'll keep an eye out.”
David stepped closer to the desk, his hand brushing the edge. Then it went lower.
My breath stopped as his fingers accidentally grazed the space near my shoulder. I bit back a gasp.
“Careful!” Theo's voice sharpened instantly. “That desk is expensive.”
David chuckled, pulling his hand back.
“I'm sorry. Didn't mean to touch anyt
hing sensitive.”
I froze, my heart pounding. I had just one prayer— that David wouldn't look down.
If he did, then it was over. All over.
