“Sir Julius, are you serious? You want to take that girl with you?” Artem asked. “Mmhmm, I’m serious.” “But the Imperial Cross Hospital is…” “Hold it!” Michael interjected, “Guys, you do know that Catarina is an engineer right? Why would you invite her to become a doctor? That’s outrageous. Are you planning on stealing our best of the best?” “If it’s a doctor who performed a splenectomy, they’re definitely qualified to enter our hospital. Michael, I understand your feelings, but I don’t think Catarina has brought something to the engineering field…” “Hah?” Michael knitted his brows, did he just say Catarina hasn’t achieved anything in the engineering field? Outrageous. “We’re currently on a project that will introduce a new aircraft. And she also introduced us to some processing machines that can extract raw materials. There’s no way I’ll give her to you.” “Hoh? A new aircraft huh?” Artem looked at Catarina, does this girl excel in the engineering field? What possibly could she have introduced? Somehow, Artem was looking interested to see what they were building. “Sir Julius, I think it’s not appropriate for a lady who doesn’t have a license to work at the Royal Cross Hospital. She may have performed a splenectomy but that doesn’t mean she’s qualified to become a doctor. As far as I know, the Royal Cross Hospital doesn’t accept apprentices and she clearly doesn't have a medical license. So…” After hearing that, Julius pondered. Artem was right, she can’t work at the Royal Cross Hospital without those requirements. Not to mention, she’s an apprentice in the engineering department. He clicked his tongue, this lady who’s a genius in medicine shouldn’t be wasted. So he thought of a solution and came up with one. “Then she can get her license.” “What?” “Since the test is going to be held after the birthday ball. I think she can get her license after taking the test.” Julius said. “Oi oi!” Michael tapped his table, gathering their attention to him. “Didn’t you just hear what I said? I’m telling you to not steal my apprentice.” Artem ignored. “Even if you said that, what about her qualifications? I mean she needs to get the recommendations of three professors that the facility acknowledges.” Artem said. Hearing the conversation of two renowned doctors, Michael inwardly grimaced. Why would these two discuss something as if Emilia has accepted their offer? No, she wouldn’t join. He knew it to himself, there’s no way. They are currently working on a project and there’s no way that a girl like Emilia would abandon it over a mere invitation. “Emilia, what do you think? Do you want to become a doctor? You performing a near-impossible surgery deserved a spot in the medical field. Just say the word so I can prepare the necessary documents…” As Julius was proposing something, Emilia bowed her head. It seems that Emilia is ready to speak. “I’m sorry but I don’t think I can accept the offer, Sir Julius.” The two doctors were silent after hearing her decision. “Yes, I may have performed something miraculous like a splenectomy but I’m an engineer. I love creating things and paving the way for technological advancement. As stated in our country's motto, we are the best engineering country in the world. I want to maintain that. So I’m sorry if I were to reject your offer.” It was a straight answer. It was decided since her reincarnation here. She decided to become an engineer and contribute as much as possible to repent her sins in a past life. Though the doctor is a noble and respected profession, her heart is already set in engineering. Upon hearing her answer, Michael inwardly celebrated. His heart filled with jubilation. As expected, she won’t leave. But for the others, they were sad that they couldn’t get Emilia into medical society. “I see...It’s also rude for us to offer you a job even though you already have one. Of course, your contribution such as the splenectomy will be forever etched in the history of medicine. Thank you for your time…” While Julius was speaking, something came up with Catarina. “Uhm...can I take the test?” It was a sudden turn of events. Did this girl suddenly change her mind? “Uhm...technically you can. Why? Did you have a change of heart?” Julius asked, his eyes sparkling. “No, I just want to take the test so that I can be qualified to perform what a doctor usually does. I knew to myself that performing surgery without a license is a grave offense but if I were to take one then…” Now that she said it, Emilia performed something dangerous. Luckily she finished the surgery without fail or mistake because if that were to fail, she could be sued for malpractice. But she has the consent of the guardian so it didn’t turn that way. “So you’re saying that you will take the test because maybe in the future, you would encounter the same?” “Yes.” Emilia nodded. “Okay, but the test will be in one month. I believe the engineering test will be on 29 while for medicine, 30. If you were to pass both of those tests, you could be the first person who has two professions, doctor and engineer.” “I know…” This was what Catarina had thought. Passing two tests will greatly increase her chance of winning her test against the Emperor. She does have a considerable amount of medical knowledge. “Well if you say so, thank you for taking interest in the medical field. Catarina, I’ll be seeing your future endeavors.” “Yes, it’s also a pleasure to meet the lady who performed a splenectomy.” Artem bowed. … The two doctors left the room, leaving Michael and Catarina behind. Their meeting was similar to a battlefield where Michael was the president of the country protecting its assets. If he were to lose Catarina, the country wouldn’t recover. “Uhm...Sir Michael...thank you for your compassionate words earlier, fighting with me.” Michael slightly blushed at her cute voice, “It’s just my responsibility as your professor and your senior. No need to thank me.” Catarina smiled, “I expected them to come since I performed something impossible in their field of study. Now that the matter with them is finished, let’s finish the helicopter and have it running before the month.” Michael rose to his feet, wearing a determined look, he raised his thumbs up. “That’s right! Let’s go to the laboratory.” … The helicopter that they are building will be nearing its completion next week thanks to Catarina’s modern knowledge. Most of the testing such as the engine's throttle ratio, the equipment, and materials are being done by the engineers led by professor Michael himself. With that, she has acquired a considerable amount of time to review and prepare for her test. There wasn’t a lot of time until the test. It was impossible to pass even with cramming. She would have to pass with the knowledge she already had…but there wasn’t any nervousness or hesitation in her eyes. After the chaos had settled, it was decided that Catarina would take the medical license and engineering license test this year. ‘I didn’t plan on it…but this is for the better.’ Walking in front of the building alone, she thought to herself. If she wanted to win the bet with the Emperor, getting a license was necessary. ‘If I didn’t get the qualification like this, I would’ve had to look for another way.’ ‘Anyway, the test is coming up soon. I won’t have time to study. And the ball is right around the corner too.’ She stopped to look at the sky. ‘The birthday ball.’ In her past life, the ball was quite special. It was when her engagement with the Crown Prince was announced. She was so happy then. Not even knowing the tragedy the engagement would bring. ‘It’s fine. The birthday ball this year will go by without any trouble. Since the Emperor said so, he won’t announce my engagement. I’ll just show my face and leave.’ Since she was a high noble, she couldn’t completely skip the ball. After eating something, she planned on returning to her residence to get ready for the test. ‘Wait a moment.’ It was then. She thought about something she had forgotten about. ‘Didn’t the Emperor say he would announce the Crown Prince’s fiancee during this ball? How will he do that?’ ‘He won’t be able to skip over it since he said it himself. And everyone will be curious.’ The fiancee of the Crown Prince was everyone’s interest. All the nobles were looking forward to it, so he would have to say something at least. ‘He wouldn’t say my name as the fiancee, right?’ But she shook her head. They had finished that conversation a long time ago, so he wouldn’t announce her as the fiancee. ‘I don’t know. It’s not related to me anymore. The Emperor will take care of it.’ ‘The sky is clear. What good weather.’ As the wind flew, it shifted her hair. Getting the cool breeze felt nice. ‘I should go back inside to work now.’ It was when she arrived in front of the building. She stopped. “…!” Someone completely unexpected was standing there. “You’re….?” Deep blonde hair, blue eyes. Beautiful but cold. “Andrew?” It was the guardian of the gunshot wound! He turned to look at her. Although they were definitely strangers, he was familiar. “You’re here. Was it Emilia?” “Oh…yes.” Catarina had a questioning face. He was here to see her? Why? “Why…are you here?” He was wearing normal knight clothes. But he was a high noble with the insignia of the Imperial Family. He could be their relative. ‘Did he know I was Lady Catarina?’ “…..” But the man just looked at her silently. Catarina made an awkward expression at his uncomfortable gaze. “Uh…do you have something to say?” “No.” “Then…why?” The man opened his mouth and closed it again. “Just to see you.” “…?” Catarina had another questioning face. He was just here to see her? Why? The man spoke in passing. “And there’s something I needed to check.” Catarina had an even more confused face. His personality was as cold as his face and he spoke like he didn’t want to explain. “That’s it. You may go now.” And the man started to walk away. Catarina blankly looked at his back. What was this? ‘Wait. Didn’t he…?’ A sudden thought came to her mind. “Just a moment! Sir Andrew!” She shouted clearly, but the man didn’t turn around like he was pretending not to have heard anything. Eventually, Catarina ran and grabbed his hand. “Just a moment!” The man frowned at the soft contact. “What?” “Haaa, haaa.” She panted with a red face. “What’s the problem?” What she said was completely unexpected. “Please leave after a check-up.” “What?” “Check-up? You’re tired and dizzy all the time. Am I right?” Catarina looked at his pale face. “I’ll treat you.”
