The veil hadn’t left me. Even as the morning sun filtered through the windows of Ridgeway High, casting soft gold on lockers and tile floors, I could still feel it. A whisper behind reality, brushing the edges of my senses like invisible silk. Selene stirred as I reached my locker. ‘You’re humming.’ “I am not.” ‘Are too. It’s either that or the new ‘chosen one’ high is kicking in.’ I grinned, lips twitching. “Maybe both.” But the grin faded the moment I turned around. Because Ridgeway was… buzzing. Not in the normal “football gossip and test-cramming” kind of way. No. This was deeper. Electric. Students clustered near windows and doorways, murmuring about things they didn’t understand. “I swear, the vending machine exploded—like, literally sparked—when Jason touched it.”
