Chapter 5- The Oracle’s Vision

1116 Words
Dawn broke over Aetherhold with streaks of rose and gold painting the floating islands in breathtaking hues. The group had barely slept in the abandoned observation tower. Bruises from the escape throbbed, but the adrenaline from the night’s battle still lingered. Aria stood by the window, watching the city slowly wake up below. The Aether Crystal Heart in her pack pulsed gently, as if alive. She turned to her friends, who were slowly stirring. “We can’t stay hidden forever,” she said. “Professor Voss said the Oracle could help. We find her, get real answers, and figure out our next move.” Mira stretched, her new shadow cloak shifting around her. “Or we get more cryptic riddles and end up running again. I’m getting tired of this.” Finn sat up, messy blond hair sticking out wildly. “Hey, at least the view is insane. Floating city, two moons… this beats any i********: spot back home.” Rowan adjusted his cracked glasses and checked the glowing crystal Voss had given them. “This crystal is already dimming. We need to move before it stops hiding our signatures.” They slipped out of the tower and made their way through the upper levels of Aetherhold. The city was even more magnificent in daylight. Crystal bridges hummed with energy, scholars floated between towers on discs of condensed air, and markets sold everything from enchanted weapons to glowing fruits. However, the beauty was tainted by tension — more guards patrolled the streets, and whispers of “Veilbreaker spies” followed them. Professor Voss met them at the entrance to the Oracle’s Spire — a tall, slender tower that pierced the clouds. He looked tired but determined. “The Oracle has agreed to see you,” he said quietly. “But be respectful. She sees fragments of many possible futures. Not all of them are kind.” The inside of the spire was serene. Soft light filtered through crystalline walls, and the air smelled of incense and old parchment. At the top, they entered a circular chamber where an elderly woman sat cross-legged on a floating platform. Her silver hair flowed like liquid moonlight, and her eyes were pure white, glowing faintly. The Oracle of Aetherhold. “You carry the blood of the First Veilkeepers,” she said without preamble, her voice echoing softly. “Aria Kane. Mira Kane. Rowan Hale. Finn Reed. The rift did not choose you by chance. It answered a call from your own bloodline.” Aria stepped forward. “We just want to go home. Can you open a rift back to our world?” The Oracle tilted her head, listening to something only she could hear. “The paths are tangled. The Veilbreaker has shattered too many threads. Sending you home now would tear open more rifts — possibly destroying both worlds.” Mira crossed her arms. “Great. So we’re stuck here playing heroes?” “Not necessarily heroes,” the Oracle replied. “But you are involved. The Veilbreaker’s followers will not stop hunting you. Your powers are rare — a direct connection to the primal forces of this world.” She raised her hands. A shimmering vision appeared in the air — images of their crash, the moment the rift opened, and flashes of a grand temple hidden deep in the Shadowed Peaks. “Your ancestor, Lady Elara Kane, sealed the Great Rift centuries ago. The power you received is her legacy. You four are living keys. Together, your combined abilities can either repair the Veil… or help the Veilbreaker destroy it.” Rowan’s eyes widened with fascination. “So our powers aren’t random. They’re connected — Aether, Shadow, Verdant, Storm. The four primal forces.” “Exactly,” the Oracle said. “But power without unity is chaos.” For the next two hours, she guided them through an intense but patient training session. Under her guidance, they learned to combine their powers more effectively. Aria created stable force fields large enough to protect the whole group. Mira discovered how to share her shadow teleportation. Rowan linked his vines with Aria’s energy to create living, reinforced barriers. Finn managed to summon a controlled storm sphere that could both attack and shield. The training was not without funny moments. Finn got too excited and accidentally created a small whirlwind that lifted Mira upside down. She hung there, yelling, “Put me down, you i***t!” while everyone laughed. Even the Oracle smiled faintly. However, her final warning was grim. “The Veilbreaker already knows you are here. His champion — a powerful shadow knight named Vesper — is coming to Aetherhold. You must leave before nightfall. Head toward the Crystal Wilds. There you will find allies… and the first piece of the Veil Seal.” As they left the Spire, alarms began echoing across the floating islands. Dark purple cloaks were openly clashing with city guards in the lower districts. “They’re here,” Finn muttered. The escape from Aetherhold was pure chaos. The group fought their way across crystal bridges while patrols closed in. Mira pulled them through shadows to avoid direct confrontation. Finn unleashed gusts of wind to knock enemies off balance. Rowan summoned thick vines to block alleyways. Aria’s golden shields deflected crossbow bolts. During the escape, they faced their first real coordinated battle against a squad of Veilbreaker soldiers. The fight was intense — lightning cracked, shadows lashed out, vines whipped through the air, and golden energy flared brightly. They won, but not without cost. Mira took a shallow cut on her arm, and Finn was exhausted from overusing his storm powers. They escaped Aetherhold on a stolen vine elevator, descending rapidly toward the forests below. As the floating city grew smaller above them, Aria looked at her friends — bruised, tired, but still together. “We have a direction now,” she said. “The Crystal Wilds. We find this next piece of the seal and figure out how to fix this mess.” Finn forced a grin. “Road trip 2.0: Magic Edition.” Rowan checked their supplies. “We have roughly five days of travel ahead if we avoid main roads.” Mira smirked, her new shadow cloak fluttering. “As long as we don’t die, I’m good.” That night, as they made camp deep in the forest once again, Aria heard the voice return — clearer than before: Blood of the Veil calls to blood. The Kane line was never fully severed from Elyndor. She didn’t tell the others yet. Not until she understood what it truly meant. The real journey had only just begun. - Chapter 5 -
