The boys came back from the trip with great news: Rekka was immune to fire. When the family found about his powers, they were happy.
-Rekka-chan, you're so strong! – Said Hina.
She then looked at Akio in a scared face. Akio noticed this and told her not to worry.
The next day, they got ready for their second trip. Akio got worried, he saw a wanted sign with Rekka and him on it, but their faces were drawn wrong. He was relieved when he saw the faces. They once again went to the fields.
-Okay Rekka, this time, lets try to improve your MP control. Take your hand out and try to focus on it as much as you can. You can already throw fireballs, which is really impressive, so this should be an easy task for you.
Rekka got in position and tried to do it, but he could not let out any magic.
-What's wrong? – Asked Akio.
-I can't do it. – Said Rekka in a sad voice – Every time I threw fireball, I did it instinctively for self-protection, but I cannot do it manually.
Rekka got down. Akio noticed this and tried to cheer him up.
-Don't worry! It's your first time, you will get used to it!
Rekka smiled back and continued to focus on his hand. A couple of hours passed. He ran some laps in the fields and continued to focus MP in his hands. It started to get dark, so they went back home, ate, bathed and went to sleep.
They continued to train like this every day. After a couple of days, when they were training on MP control, his nails started to lighten up and soon after, he was holding a fireball in his hands. It was smaller compared the ones he threw, but he was holding its form well.
-Congratulations Rekka! – Happily said Akio.
Soon the boy lost control and the fire disappeared, but he could do it again almost every time.
In a week, he completely mastered how to control and focus MP in his body.
-Rekka, I see you have completely mastered how to control MP and create fireballs! The level of your power is already enough to become an adventurer and take 1-2 Star quests. You are still far too young to become one, but I can still give you simple tasks in these fields! Are you up for the challenge? – Asked Akio.
Rekka made a fireball in his hand and said:
-I think I got what it takes!
The boy did not think much of the tasks, until he heard them.
-You see... – said Akio – You probably already noticed there are packs of weak monsters wandering these vast fields. We already talked about this, but for you to get stronger, you need to... Put these monsters to rest. I know it will be hard for you, but if you can get over it, you will soon see the progress in your powers.
The people did not know why killing monsters made one stronger. They researched multiple monsters, adventurers and normal townspeople, but they could not make a conclusion. They only noticed, when killing a monster and only monsters, your MP fluctuates and changes its power, making the one who killed it stronger, depending on the threat level of the monster.
Rekka did not know what to do. After giving it a lot of thought, he decided to trust Akio and follow his guidance.
Akio pointed a finger on a slime pack of five in approximately 70 meters and told the young boy:
-The plains is the place where the most slimes reside. They find the easiest to live in this environment. You know what I'm about to tell you. Let's see your progress in this small fight!
Rekka got there and completely wiped out the slimes, without even giving them a chance to fight back. Akio got amazed after witnessing the boy's strength and went to congratulate him. The nearby slimes attacked Rekka after seeing their kind die, but the boy annihilated them in a single fireball. When Akio got to him, the boy was crying near the remnants of the slimes. He tried to calm down Rekka and told him in a soothing voice:
-Don't cry my boy. Remember that you did nothing wrong. Think of it like this! When killing one monster, you saved one person from getting scared or hurt! Hey, look! One slime you killed had some small golden nuggets in him! Let us take them home and make parents happy! – Akio desperately tried to calm the boy down. He wanted him to become strong, even at his age, to protect himself when he wasn't there.
He dried up Rekka and he stopped crying. They went home soon after.
There are some people that are against mercilessly killing monsters, saying they did nothing wrong and were protecting themselves, but had no proof when the monsters attacked people, even if they fed them.
