Chapter 23: First Adventure

Sun started rising over the tall bamboo forest. Daichi woke up tired. He slept on a hard surface and his back was hurting. Old man saw Rekka trying to fix the broken cart. He still couldn't cope what he saw yesterday. Daichi even started to suspect the boy burning the city of Tow.

-Good morning boy! – Said Daichi.

Rekka just glared at him and didn't say anything.

-When will you stop giving me a cold shoulder? – Said the old man in a tired voice – We've been together for almost a week and you barely talk to me! You haven't even thanked me for saving you!

Rekka looked over to Daichi.

-About yesterday... Sorry... I could've saved you sooner.

-Kid... - He got close to Rekka and kneeled in front of him – If not you, I would've been panda food right now. I hope you realize you saved my life. – He then put his hand on his shoulder – I know, you might think his old man is annoying, but we need to cooperate to survive right now. The boy was still scared of telling him about the demon inside of him.

The boy started sobbing. Daichi saw through Rekka. He saw the amount of pain he was going through and tried to cheer him up.

-Well would you look at that! Our cart is broken down and we lost all our water. Want to go and search for a stream or a river? You can be my bodyguard!

The boy nodded and they took off with empty bottles. Daichis arm was hurting, but he didn't show it, fearing it would've worried the boy even more. On the way, they encountered big green slimes.

-Don't let them touch you, they sting really badly! – Said Daichi.

Rekka just threw fireballs at them and they exploded.

-Just like that, without hesitation? Who is this boy? – Thought the old man to himself.

After a while walking, they found a big sparkling river. Filled with fish and clean water, they filled the bottles with it and returned to the cart. Daichi thought of how to travel now on.

-Hey Rekka – Said Daichi – We need travel to Nissel on foot. Our cart is unfixable and no one travels on these roads. – Daichi was too ashamed to say he illegally trespassed the country border. – It will might take two weeks to get back, and we will need to go hunt when we ran out of food. I'm sorry, but are you okay with this.

Rekka realized how tough the next couple of week would've been, but he had no other choice and nodded his head.

They took all the food and water they could and headed to Nissel with confidence on Daichis face.
