The next day, they were supposed to arrive at Tow. But before we explore what happens next, let’s read some of his past adventures.
The academy ended. Rekka headed towards the exit. Hundreds of students crowded the area. He managed to get through them.
-Man, what a tiring day. – He sighed.
He waited for his friends to walk home together. After a couple of minutes, Maeko and the twins came along.
-Hello Rekka! – The twins waved their hands.
-Hello girls. – Rekka started moving.
They ran to him.
-How was your day? – They asked in sync.
-It was a little more tiring. Another red came to me to “test his skills” – He quoted with his fingers – But he didn’t stand a chance.
-He’s so cool. – Thought the sisters as they looked at the boy with bright eyes.
Rekka turned around.
-Are Kaito and Sora doing any better?
-I don’t know, haven’t visited them since yesterday. – Said Maeko with a worried tone.
Rekka noticed that Maeko was concerned about the boys. He thought of a way to lighten up the mood.
-How about we got the guild. A little adventure wouldn’t hurt, right?
-I’m in! – Said Mira.
-Me too! – Mari raised his hand.
-Why not. – Maeko smiled and shook his head with closed eyes – Even though you’re tired, you’re still willing to spend time with us. I’m glad I have a friend like you. – She thought.
They walked and chatted together. After entering the guild, they walked up to the board.
-Oh, how about this! – Mira pointed his hand at one.
-That’s too dangerous. – Said Rekka with a concerned voice.
-These monsters don’t stand a chance against me! – She tried to show her bicep.
The kids giggled. After observing closely, they decided on one simple, but challenging task. In the city of Mal, search for left over Bebels. The route there would take half a day, but they decided it was worth it, as it had a high payment. On their way, they talked about their situation during the Night Forest Invasion.
-What were you two doing during it? – Asked Rekka.
-Well, our city was safe! It was heavily guarded by the Elite Guards. – Answered Mira.
-We were still kept isolated. We weren’t permitted to leave the town for months for our safety! – Said Mari.
-Lucky. – Thought Rekka and Maeko.
After a couple of hours, they arrived at the ruined city. The young adventurers started exploring the ruins, but they could find nothing. Hours flew by without them noticing anything.
-There’s nothing here. – Said Rekka and wiped off sweat – We walked so far, yet only met low tier monsters.
-We did kill one Dark Slime. – Pointed out Maeko.
-What if they are hiding? Like a pack of wolves. – Suggested Mari.
-That’s, a great point. – Rekka sat down on a rock – But most of the monsters were exterminated by the kingdom, It’s unlikely.
-Should we go to the cave? – Asked Mira.
-The cave? – Asked the three kids.
-I learned it in the academy, that there’s a giant cave to the north of this city.
-Why not. – Said Rekka – Let’s go, we have nothing to lose.
They started walking, skipping over debris and having some fun. They arrived at a giant mountain with an entrance. Rekka lit a small fire in his hand and entered the cave. It was eerie. Suddenly, the four adventurers felt uneasy. They heard weird sounds.
-I think you were right. – Said Rekka – They are hiding here. Be careful of the shadows.
Out of nowhere, a Bebel jumped out. Rekka and the twins dodged it. Maeko ran at it and with all of her power, punched it with her iron fists, breaking its skull and killing it.
-Brutal. – Said the twins.
-This is the job I choose. – Maeko punched her fists together – More are coming.
The footsteps became louder. Rekka created a longsword and the twins got in positions. Bebels started running out like a storm. The kids fought them off. Rekka didn’t have a problem, as he could easily pierce them, but Maeko and the twins were outnumbered. Rekka tried to help them, but there were too many.
-They are immune to fire, I can’t use magic here! – He thought.
The twins were fighting like lions, cutting the monsters with their claws. The ground started shaking, when suddenly a Giant Golem came from the depths.
-Back off everyone, I’ll take care of it! – Shouted Rekka – It’s carrying a boulder, just like Whitebolt said in his stories. – He thought.
Rekka ran at it with full speed. The golem attacked the ground. Rekka jumped on its hand and ran to its head. With a finishing strike, he pierced it and exploded the tip of the sword. The lifeless golem fell on the ground.
-Nice Rekka! – Shouted Maeko as she beat the Bebels to death.
After a long and tedious battle, they eliminated every monster. They were catching their breath.
-That was fun. – Giggled Rekka. Sweat drooled on his forehead.
Mira and Mari hugged each other.
-That was scary Mira!
-I was terrified Mari!
They started crying.
-I guess that was their first time being on a dangerous mission. – Said Maeko.
-Yeah. I was doing worse on the first one. I nearly died. – Answered Rekka.
-Thank you Rekka, you saved us! – The twins pounced on Rekka, making him fall down.
-Whooaaaah! – Shouted Rekka.
Maeko burst out laughing. Others followed. After a small break, they headed towards their cart.
-How did it go kids? – Asked the man.
-We eliminated the threat. – Answered Rekka.
-That’s great! We need more young talents like you fire boy. – The man whipped the horses and they went on their way.
It was night when they arrived at Limasse. Mira and Mari were sleeping on each other’s shoulders.
-Rekka, you take the payment. The twins and I will go home. It’s late and our parents will be worried. – Said Maeko and yawned. She took off her iron fists.
The sound woke up the sisters.
-Are we there yet? – Said Mari while rubbing her eyes.
-I think so. – Answered Mira.
They got off the carts and left.
-Goodbye kids. – Said the man.
-Goodbye girls. – Said Rekka and walked off.
-Goodbye Rekka. – Said the twins in sync and waved their hands.
Maeko walked home with them.
-Rekka is so cool. – Said Mira in a quiet voice.
She had a happy smile on her face.
-Uhm. – Maeko looked at her with unsurely – I need to take the turn here, bye girls.
-Bye. – Said Mari.
Rekka arrived at the Adventurer’s Guild. Harumi was standing at the counter, holding his head with his hand. She was sleepy as it was late. She got surprised when Rekka came in.
-Hello Rekka! What are you doing here so late at night?
-I just came back from Mal. – Said Rekka and walked up to her – There was a Dark Golem, which wasn’t written in the task.
Harumi leaned forwards.
-Tell me more.
Rekka said how the mission went.
-So some of the monsters from the invasion are still hiding in packs. – Harumi made a thoughtful pose – I will warn the guild of this encounter. We will take action.
-That’s great but… - Rekka said awkwardly.
-Don’t worry. – She giggled and took out a bag of money – Here.
Rekka took it with pride.
-I will leave then. Good night Harumi.
-Good night Rekka. – She said and waved her hand – He is surprising me after every encounter. You should treasure him, Ken-chan.
