Chapter 17: Uncontrollable

Needle started to head towards Highfalls with the boy on his back. The two moons started rising and it began to get dark. He set out a small camp in the fields and made a campfire. Needle tried to wake the boy up, but he would not budge.

-You're dead asleep, aren't you? Your body can't handle the immense power the thing inside you gives. – He thought for a while – Hmm... You were inspected once... However, they couldn't find anything... I think I'll keep your powers a secret... Just between us, okay? I don't want you die young... Only you.

The next morning they got there. Needle handed the kid over to the higher-ups in secret. One of them told him:

-G-good job! You retrieved him in j-just 3 days, while the guards couldn't in years! – He barely said it.

After, Higher-ups gave the child to scientists and they took him in the laboratory. Needle followed them with invisibility, wondering what they would do with the anomaly boy. They used sleeping magic on Rekka, to make sure he wouldn't wake up in the middle of the procedure. They put him on the bed and under a weird machine.

-What are they... Going to do with him? – Thought Needle to himself while leaning on a wall.

-Do we have the scroll ready? – Asked one scientist.

-Yes, we can start the procedure. Turn on the extractor.

There are multiple materials and minerals in this world with unique properties. One of them is a rock named Cripto. It can suck out magic from a person and store it within itself. You can manually extract that magic too. Because of this, it is illegal to keep this rock without permission. Extractor is a machine that utilizes this rocks power safely.

-Oh? This will be a sight to behold. – Needle giggled to himself, smoking a blunt.

-We checked and the boy only possesses LVL 2 fire magic, nearly turning into LVL 3. This process should go smoothly. – Said the main researcher.

Unexpectedly, one scientist barged into the laboratory. He had scars on his face.

-Professor Souta! What brings you here?

-HAHA! – Laughed the professor – After so many years, I can finally get my revenge!

-What's the matter professor? You don't seem yourself. – Said one scientist.

-He is the one that made me LOOK LIKE THIS! After the procedure, I will make sure to treat him well.

Scientists got confused, but shortly after resumed turning on the extractor.

-Procedure will start in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!

Extractor soon started spinning and a beam of light pierced Rekkas chest, pulling out the MP from him.

-What is this? MP is red colored, it is not normal!

Humans MP while extracting is light blue, this was the first time they were seeing it different color.

-Oh? Guess I was right... Heh... - Said Needle.

Lots of MP started flowing out of Rekka. The air around started to get hot.

-Its going out of control! – Screamed the main scientist.

The Cripto started overflowing with MP.

-No, no, NO! At this rate, it's going to explode!

-Turn off the machine! – Said the main scientist.

-We can't! It's out of control! WHATS WRONG WITH THIS BOY! – Screamed one scientist.

-*Sigh* these people are... Unqualified for their job. – Said Needle.

He quickly took out and threw needles at the rock, piercing it and making MP flow out of it.

-It... Isn't overflowing anymore? – Said the confused scientist.

-Good luck kid... My job here is done. – Needle left the room.

Scientists were dumbfounded by the occurring events.

-Maybe, I should let the boy be. – Nervously said Souta.

-The scroll! – Said the main scientist.

They extracted the magic left in Cripto.

-LVL 4!? Even with so much MP lost?

-This boy, no, this "thing" needs to be inspected more. I have never seen or read red MP before; he is one of a kind. We need to proceed with caution, for things like this to not happen again.

They took the sleeping boy in the inspection room, wanting to find out the secret, which resides within Rekka.
