Chapter 5: Awaken Power.
Maya's POV
“Maya, focus on what you're doing," Selena's voice cut through the haze in my mind.
I tried to center myself, but every nerve felt like it was on fire. My hands shook as the power rippled through me, it was raw and wild.
“I don't know how to control it, Selena. This is too much for me”.
Selena placed a steady hand on my shoulder. “You can. You just have to find the balance within you”.
I swallowed hard, the weight of her words almost laughable given the chaos surging in my veins. Since the transformation, everything looks different, sharper, and more intense.
I could feel the heartbeat of the forest, the whisper of the wind. Above all, there was a rage bubbling inside which was fierce and unrestrained.
“It's not just about balance, Selena; there is more to that,” I said, clenching my fists. “It's the anger that matters and the need for revenge..”
Selena nodded knowingly. “Asher hurt you right? Then no one would blame you for feeling that way”.
Hearing Asher's name made my anger flare like a flame doused in gasoline. He’d betrayed me and left me broken in pain, but this power and strength had made me feel like I could finally fight back and take control.
“If I face him,” I said, almost to myself, “I’m not sure I’d be able to hold back.”
Selena’s eyes softened, but her voice remained firm. “If you’re ready to pull the bull by its horn you should be aware that revenge doesn’t come without a price, Maya. You have to decide if you’re willing to pay for it.”
I looked away, staring out into the dense woods. I’d been training every day, testing the limits of this new strength. But something seems to be different each time, a dark voice in the back of my mind urges me to go further, to unleash everything. It scared me, yet it was thrilling in a way I’d never experienced before.
“Then tell me why I keep sensing tension in the air,” I murmured, glancing at her. “It’s more than just me, isn’t it? Something is happening, something... bigger.”
Selena hesitated before answering. “Asher’s pack has conflicted with Victor Nightshade’s rogues for years. It’s a delicate balance, one that could crumble at any moment.”
I turned to her, feeling the weight of her words. “Victor... he’s the one Asher’s pack fears?”
Selena nodded. “And he’s dangerous, Maya. Ruthless. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”
“But what does he want?”
“He wants power and control,” she replied, her eyes narrowing. “He has been watching you, Maya. Ever since your transformation, you're not just an ordinary wolf. You’ve become something….rare, and that's exactly what he craves”.
I shivered, feeling the weight of her gaze, so my transformation was more than just a personal change—it was a piece of a much larger puzzle, one I wasn't certain I wanted to be part of”.
“What does that mean for me?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
“It means you’re a threat to him. To everyone, really,” Selena said. “And that makes you valuable. You have power, Maya, and now every pack is watching, waiting to see what you’ll do with it.”
A mixture of fear and excitement pulsed through me. I was no longer just Maya. I was something more, something dangerous.
My mind was boiling and ranging in anger like a lion who was ready to devour, but the question lingered—who could I trust in a world filled with enemies?
“This is a battle of fate and I don’t want to be anyone’s pawn,” I muttered. “I want to fight for myself.”
Selena gave me a faint smile. “That’s why I’m here, Maya. To help you. But this path you’re on... it’s one few survive. Are you willing to face the risks?”
I took a deep breath, feeling the weight of her words. The risks were real, but so was the strength within me. For the first time, I felt a strange kind of freedom—a release from the past that had chained me.
“Teach me everything,” I said, my voice firm.
Selena nodded approvingly. “Then let’s begin.”
The training was grueling and each session became more intense than the last. Selena pushed me to the edge testing my limits, breaking every ounce of weakness. But each time I felt I was about to fall apart, the anger inside urged me to keep going.
“Do you feel it?” Selena asked one evening when I was very tired, collapsing, and breathlessly soaked with sweat.
“Yes, I can," I panted. "It's like….I'm stronger and better than yesterday. But it's more than just strength but rage”.
Selena crushed beside me, her gaze steady. “That rage is what will fuel you. But you have to control it, or it will consume you. Power without control is a weapon turned on yourself”.
“Then you will be unstoppable,” she said, a bit of pride in her voice. “But remember Maya—power attracts enemies. You can't just trust everyone around you”.
As the days went by, I started to understand what she meant. I could sense the shift in the forest, the tense whispers among the pack members.
It was as if they were waiting for something—-perhaps a war something I was somehow at the center of.
One night, as we walked through the woods, I turned to Selena, unable to shake the feeling that had been gnawing at me. “Why did you choose to help me? You could have left me to figure this out on my own.”
“You don't know you have saved a pack by saving you" She paused, looking at me with an expression I couldn’t quite read. “Because, Maya, I believe you’re the one who can end this war. You have a gift—a power that could change everything.”
A shiver ran down my spine. “But what if I don’t want this? What if I just want a normal life?”
Serena sighed. “Then you’ll have to fight for it. Because once you’re marked, there’s no going back. The packs, Victor, even Asher—they’ll all come for you.”
My heart pounded, fear and determination warring within me. I hadn’t chosen this path, but it seemed fate had its plans.
My mind still ponders on questions that keep lingering in my thoughts, nagging at me like a dark shadow.
Was I ready to figh
t and face the truth? And who would be standing by my side when the war finally began?
