The Letters and A new name
"James?" John looked at his oldest son. "Something must be up. Shift and head to tree lines."
One barely heard any bones crack as two huge wolves stood in their place. The dark brown wolf stood a good head taller than the lighter version of himself. Their names were Asger and Eirik.
Stay close and slow down when we approach the lines Eirik
Yes Alpha Asger
With that the two wolves took off towards the tree reaching the spot where a tall German man and a Native dressed in traditional clothing stood waiting. Asger eyed the Native suspiciously.
the German finally spoke to the wolves.
"Easy Asger and Eirik. He's friend. Please I need to have chat with John and Jazon."
The wolves looked at each other for a minute before shifting to their human counterparts.
"James, Nice to see you old friend. Who's the pup?" John asked his friend addressing the Native behind them. "Jazon why don't you head back to the house and tell the family its nothing to worry about."
After Jazon high tailed it towards the family the German spoke again.
" I wouldn't be so sure my friend. Have you looked at what's in your mail lately. Or have you forgotten again? This lad is Red Feather. Father was Flying Eagle, and Mother is Red Tiger."
The Native stepped forward and held out a hand that John grasped tight, the young kid showed no sign of flinching which told of his immense strength to John.
"Your mother brought Charley to my family. She has my immense gratitude."
"My mother wants to know how she is doing these days, and is wondering if you'll allow her to visit."
" Your mother is welcomed here anytime she wishes, and if she is unable Charley can come see her with an escort of course. But James, you almost never leave Amethyst Crystal territory since Maria fell ill. Is everything okay?"
"Maria is fine. She isn't getting any worse or any better, we are just in some kind of limbo." James said sullenly. " We just came from a meeting with the Elders regarding their letters."
"Letters? What letters?" John chuckled awkwardly as he rubbed the back of his head while shrugging " I haven't looked or was not told we received anything but the invites for the pups."
James shook his head. " The Council Of Elder Shifters is moving a new and very powerful Black Smoke Fox Clan into the Old White Paw Mountain Territory. Since they're a fox clan and Charley came from one I was hoping you would have some information about them since she is coming close to that age."
" Where the White Paw Artic fox tribe use to live. All I can tell you was that tribe always kept to themselves and never had anyone go outside their clan, they are considered physically weaker compared to others and are looked down on. Wait is it that the clan the White Paws were trying to avoid all those years ago?"
"The very same only their leader Death has passed the tribe to his son Rage. From what I hear he is like his father in every way until his sister recently stepped in. Apparently she approached the Elders asking them for help in regards to her brother. They want to give him a chance to become a legitimate leader so he will be attending the camp as well. She was there when we were. She seems desperate to pull her brother back from the dark legacy of their father. Wrath the adopted brother was also in attendance. He doesn't look at all like the rumors portray him to be. Yet, I am still cautious."
"WHAAAT?!" John's alpha aura began to radiate in waves, however, James was unaffected compared to the young pup who stood next to him, slightly shaking.
The German turned toward the young Native "I think you should go check on your mother, I have the herbs with and I will be fine here. Its all neutral territory from here. I also think John and I need to carry on the rest of this conversation in private. You have yet to experience Leaders Camp and I don't wish to spoil anything for you as the rest of the conversation will include it." James said with a smile
The Native looked between the two men suspiciously.
James smiled " If you really want to know Thomas, ask your mother."
The seemed to pacify the Native enough for him to leave, once he was out of hearing range the older men continued talking.
" Since all the children are of age or will be of age by the time Leaders Camp starts they are thinking of holding the Gathering this time. I think Charley-"
"DON'T even finish that sentence James. I don't even want to think about it. The possibility of Charley being with that disgusting piece of s**t. I'd rather deal with the aftermath of Rejection than feed to that ruthless animal. It'll be like handing aa mouse to a snake." He growled in frustration.
"John, you can't keep her here forever. She needs to find her mate and being the type of shifter she is, her best half is going to be within his clan or it'll be Rage himself. You need to come to terms with that. And from what research I have been able to get my hands regarding them. Her own people are blended into his clan. Her birth family might still be alive and within that clan. I think it's time you tell her or rather have Marley tell her since the two are so close. It might make the heartache easier to deal with. Either way it is time."
And with that James shifted into a roan colored wolf with a string of herbs around his neck. He took off towards the little bit of mountain range on the west side of the packhouse.
John ran a hand through his dreads then down his face. His eyes began to well up with tears as his wife and mate sauntered up to him.
"My love what is it that makes you sad?"
"Some things are happening too soon. Council is allowing a new fox clan into the mountains. They believe they can pacify their war hungry leader by offering up Charley since she is a fox shifter as well. She has friends in all the packs so I can see as a leader how perfect it looks to them. But as a father..."
Catalina wrapped her arms around his neck soothing his nerves.
"As a father, you don't wish to see your baby girl go, and especially into the hands of someone with a bad reputation. I know. I know you wanted to hold off on talking to her about this for a long time but she needs to know. This time don't use Marley, tell her yourself." Her voice calm like ocean waves to his ears as they looked towards the coastline where the sun was setting. Their territory having a perfect blend of forest, mountains, and a beach.
They spotted Charley coming towards them in the distance.
"And it seems the Moon Goddess is given you the perfect opportunity. Use this talk to get as close as you can before she becomes too far away." Catalina reasoned as she got up walking towards the packhouse, stopping to put a hand on Charley's shoulders and whisper a few words to her. Charley nodded in response and Catalina smiled back at John before continuing on to the pack house.
"Hey Char." John smiled at his precious girl.
As he looked at her all the memories came flooding back to the day she arrived.
-Flashback-
An all black wolf with an eagle feather attached to his fur and an all white wolf with a red paw print over her left eye came trotting over to John. The black wolf had a white and black super fluffy kitten looking thing dangling from his mouth. John walked out and gently took the young thing from the black wolf's mouth.
"What is it?" John asked placing the cold kit against his shirt and holding it close.
"It's a she and she is a fox shifter from the mountain." A tall tanned man with long braided black hair with an eagle feather in it wearing blue jeans stood in place of the black wolf. " My mate Nora Red Tiger found her at the base of a mountain in no man's land. The young kit could only ask where her Mother was. I know you are close friends with the Chief of the White Paws. Maybe you can look for her mother."
" I will Tom. I am sure he'll know exactly who she belongs to. I go get here warmed and maybe she will be able to shift back."
-Flashback ends-
That night the small child did shift back and wouldn't leave John's side for anything. He used his own body heat and a blanket to get the child warm enough to be able to do so. He fed her and was the only one able to talk to her in her native tongue. Unfortunately, no matter how hard he tried to get ahold of the Chief of White Paw Mountains there was never a response back. John had given up trying when she became 6 years old and just stopped speaking her native tongue in favor for English.
"What's weighing on you Dad?" The small teen asked in her hoodie and dark skinny, black and white hair tied back in a messy bun. She was the shortest of all his children but she was by far the fastest amongst the entire pack.
" There's a few things that are going to happen this year at leader's camp. This year is going to be much different than last year Char."
She nodded as she sat down beside him, watching the beginnings of the sun setting.
"Mom was telling us this year they are holding something to the affect of a dance like humans do but its for the purpose of finding a mate." She started to pluck at the grass as she started to feel nervous
John sighed " Not just that Char. They are moving a new fox clan into the mountains in a few months and their leaders will be there to attend as a form of peace offering."
The young teen perked up a little " That's great that means there will be others like me this year right." The teen began to ramble her excited thoughts about finally learning more about her kind, standing up to pace back and forth.
"Char....Charley....CHARLOTTE!" John's voice boomed commanding silence from his daughter and her immediate reaction to cower away.
"I was going to say that there is also a possibility that since its a blended clan of different types of foxes you may come across people from your birth tribe. And you may hear some things in regards to the old chief and the Chief's son as well. I ask that whatever information you find, no matter what you need to remain open and not judge so quickly. I can't explain everything about how you got here or what happened to your tribe exactly. I know Black Smoke is directly involved."
Charley face contorted in anger but she said nothing other than stomping off. it didn't take long before she shifted and headed towards the mountains. John didn't worry too much, she new where the territory lines were. He could trust her to blow off whatever steam her mind had made up and come back safely.
