  April sat on the edge of her bed, her mind swirling with confusion and despair. The events of the past few days weighed heavily on her, and she felt utterly trapped, not just physically but emotionally. Her fingers trembled as she brushed them through her tangled hair, her eyes staring blankly at the floor. The tears had dried up for now, leaving her with an aching emptiness.   Suddenly, the door creaked open, and a maid entered the room. April looked up, startled out of her thoughts.
