The air throbbed with violins and laughter, with masked figures spinning in a dance where truth and deception blurred into one. Isabella moved through the crowd in a gown of deep crimson,her mask gilded with délicate gold.she had told her father she wished to see the festival one last night.but her heart knew the truth_ she was searching for him.For Alessandro. Every mask she passed made her pulse quicken. Every shadow she crossed felt like it might hold him.And then,as though her heart had conjured him,he appeared. Without hesitation, she places hers in his.He led her into the masked dance, spinning her through the sea of glittering disguises. " Do you realize the risk?" she whispered,breathless. His lips brushed close to her ear. "Every step with you is a risk.But tonight,I will not hide". The words sent a shiver racing through her.For one fleeting moment,she forgot the eyes of Venice, Forgot Marco's fury,forgot the weight of his father's wrath.There was only the dance, only the fire of desire unmasked. But the moment shattered when a hand seized hers, pulling her away. Marco. He tore the mask from his face,his expression raw with betrayed and rage. "Enough!" His voice cut through the music,silencing dancers nearby. " Do you flaunt it before me now? Here,in front of all?" Alessandro stepped forward,his mask still in place but his voice edged with steel. " Release her, Bianchi". Marco's grip.tightened on Isabella's wrist. "She was promised to me.our fathers agreed. And you _" his eyes burned into Alessandro's mask. " _ you think you can steal her away in the shadows?" The crowd had begun to circle,whispers slithering through the air like smoke. Evelina appeared at the edge,her emerald mask gleaming,her lips curved in satisfaction as the trap she had set unfolded perfectly. " Let her choose,then", marco spat, thrusting Isabella forward. " Here and now, with all of venice as witness.Him _or me". The square fell into silence, every masked face turning toward Isabella. The violins had ceased, the firelight crackling the only sound. Alessandro's hand reached for her,steady, certain. Marco's eyes pleaded and burned all at once. And Isabella stood trembling in the lantern glow,her heart thundering as she realized there would be no more hiding.
