Chapter 12

Summer was coming to an end and the first day of school was in a couple of days. I was trying to give a lot of thought into what my parents had said, but wasn't sure if I should ask Ares his opinion. Him and I went school supply shopping, but I told him it would be on my dime this time since it wasn't going to be that much and he agreed. We stopped by the coffee shop inside the store and got a quick pick me up before gathering the stuff. 

"Can I take you to school for the first day?" He asked me 

"Sure if you want." 

"I do." He said admittedly 

"Ok. I am fine with that." I said as I sipped on my drink continuing to think of the conversation. Since that day my parents have tried to find ways to keep me on a tight leash, but it was unsuccessful as Ares power of persuasion was seemingly powerful 

"You seem distracted." 

"Do I? Are my facial expression that predictable?" I asked as pushed the cart around the store. 

"Yes they are actually." 

I let out a heavy sigh "My parents want me to have a future and to not just be hung up on you." 

"Ok and?" 

"They think you'll get in the way of it." 

"How so?" 

"I don't know by knocking me up?" 

"Oh...well that isn't going to happen. I mean it could, but it's not." 

"Do you want kids?" 

"One day," 

"Do you have kids?" I asked him as we ironically passed the baby section 

He laughed, "No." 

"Are you a virgin?" 

"No...I'm not." 

"Well you are...older, I didn't expect you to be." I told him as we made our way to the school supply section. 

I grabbed everything I needed and we checked out but I wasn't done with the conversation. I wanted to know more because I was -one curious and two I wanted understand Ares more of who he was. 

"I can see wheels turning. What are you thinking about." 

"Sex." I said 

"And?" 

"What is the first time like?" 

"Weird and awkward, but I was young and inexperienced." 

"Do you think you and I will get to that?" 

"I hope so, but I am in no rush and I don't expect you to be ready for a while." 

"So it doesn't bother you that we aren't having s*x?" 

"No. I haven't even kissed you yet Emma." 

"I know and I wish you would." 

"I like to see you squirm." He teased 

"Funny." 

"s*x is a big deal Emma. It changes you as a person and you can either respect yourself and be with someone who equally respects you back or you can go and waste it on a bunch of idiots who don't really care about you at all. I was one of those idiots. I w***e'd myself a lot especially during the war. I f****d anything that walked and had a p***y to stick it in. Didn't matter if it was full blood Fae or another creature alike. Eventually it got old after a few decades and I knew I wanted more than just a quickie and nothing meaningful." 

"Wow..." 

"Sorry too much?"

"No I appreciate your brutal honesty." I told him 

"I'd take care of you. When the time comes. I hope you know that." 

"I know. I don't doubt it for a minute Ares." 

We took my school supplies to his condo in the woods and I organized my backpack. 

"I have something for you." He said and handed me a wooden box tied with a bow. 

I took it and sat it down on my lap and untied it. I opened the box up and inside was a black leather diary with my initials on top of it. 

"Its spell bound so we can communicate with each other while you are in class so you don't get in trouble for texting." 

I smiled, "Wow this is amazing. Can I write other things in it too?" 

"Yes, the blood oath is tied to it also. Everything that has happened up until this point is in this book." 

"Thank you." I said 

"You're welcome. You ready for school?" 

"No...I'm never ready for school. Especially now." I looked up at him 

"Because of me." He smiled 

"Yes." 

"I feel honored." 

"I do honor you." I told him 

"I could kiss you now for that."

"Then why won't you?" 

"Because...of rules Emma." 

"What rules?" I aksed him

"We just need to be careful..." 

"If you could kiss me would you?" 

"I'd do a lot of things to you." 

I sucked in a breath.

"You are blushing." He said as if it were a whisper 

"I can't help it." I turned away embarrassed 

He came close to me and turned my cheek to face him. 

"You are the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on." He kissed my cheek and I closed my eyes to embrace the warmth of his lips. 

I opened my eyes and looked deep into his green ones and was in utter ecstasy getting lost in them. 

"Can I pick you up also?" He asked me 

"No." I whispered because I wasn't thinking clearly 

"No?"

I shook my head. "I mean yes, but I have practice after school so it will be right after that." 

"Lacrosse?" 

"Yeah we have our first game coming up in a couple of weeks so we need to start preparing."

"Are you any good?" 

"I'm on the varsity team." 

"So you are good." 

"Yeah I suppose I am." 

"Ok I'll come by and watch if that is ok?" 

"Just a warning I'll be very sweaty and gross." 

"Perfect." 

The last of the summer days were spent on the couch watching movies, going out for ice cream, swimming at the watering hole, and having bbq with my parents and few family members to celebrate 

On the night before school I was trying to decide what to wear and Casey walked in. 

"Wear did you get these?" She asked looking at my some of the outfits I had laying on my bed. 

"Um...when Ares and I went shopping." 

"I heard he is taking you to school." 

"Yeah he is." 

"How sweet. When you two going to make it official?" 

"We aren't." I snapped at her 

"Please I heard you telling mom and dad that you loved him." 

I didn't say anything 

"Jenna thinks you messing with Ares is a huge mistake." 

"Jenna is..." I almost said jealous, but I didn't. 

Casey sighed, "I think you should pick the overall dress. With the white long sleeve and the all black VANS." 

"That is great idea. Thanks." 

"Don't mention it." She said walking out of my room. 

I had showered and had blow dried my hair. My mom was nice enough to give me an at home manicure and pedicure so it would look extra fresh for school tomorrow. She tried to offer one to Casey, but she just snarled and went into her room. 

"I will never understand that girl." Said my mom 

"I think it's just a phase." 

"I sure do hope so." 

I looked down at the color. It was a pearl white with a hint of pink and my toes were painted black. 

"Thank you." 

"I can't believe you are a junior seems like only yesterday I was dropping you off at kindergarten." 

I rolled my eyes because she was getting soft on me. 

"Mom please." 

"Sorry. I'll stop. So Ares is taking you to school?" 

I smiled, "Yeah he is." 

"That is nice of him. Do you know what you are going to wear?" 

I nodded, "Casey helped me pick it out." 

"So there is some good in her?" 

I smiled, "There is. She is just young and still finding herself." 

"How did I get such a loving smart girl?" My mom asked 

"Because she had you as a mother." 

My mom embraced me in a hug. 

"I love you baby." 

"I love you too mommy." 

As I laid in bed watching a movie I felt the something appear next to me on my leg. It was the diary. I opened it up. 

Have sweet dreams. 

I smiled and grabbed a pen from my backpack that was right next to my bed. 

Same to you-I responded back 

I'll pick you up tomorrow morning around 8. 

I didn't respond back as I was getting sleepy. I kissed the page and closed the book. 

My phone vibrated and a text from Ares. 

"Bad girl." He wrote and I just sent him a smiley face text back. 

I put my phone back on my night stand and turned off my lamp and the tv. The night was quiet and my room was dark. I lay facing my wall and thought about Ares and wondered what it would be like to have him next to me. Just laying and listening to the sweet sounds of each others breathing. 

I closed my eyes and was taken away by dreamland and hoped that tomorrow was going to be a good first day. I wanted it to be. I really did. 

I had a dream...I was all too familiar with these dreams as they had been my constant since I was little. I smelled the cottage, the fresh flowers, and the herbs. This time was different...it was dark and I was hidden away. 2 Strangers had appeared in armor. 

"Back again already General?" 

"We know you are harboring the girl here." 

"We have lots of children here General." 

"You know what I am talking about." 

I saw through the cracks, but barely. There was an insignia of a crow on them. One turned my way as if he knew I was watching them. Those eyes were all too familiar. Ares.
