Chapter 19

The sound of a crow startled me as I heard it call out to the wild and I turned away burning my face in my knees.  "Go away Ares!" I yelled, but the unfamiliar scent it me of musty, posy, and a hint of blood. I could smell blood...and I turned. "Hello Emma." He purred  I tensed up  "Who are you." I snapped  "I think you already know the answer." He wore an all-black tunic with long white-blonde hair and he gracefully pointed to the crow.  "The King of the Fae." I could feel myself go cold with fear "Don't be afraid Emma. I am not going to hurt you."  "You want to kill me." I shuddered and he began to circle me like a lion with his prey.  "No my dear I do not." He spoke properly, "Unfortunately I am not who you think I am. A King yes, but not to the Fae."  "Then who are you!"  "Let me tell you a story...Once upon a time, there was a beautiful witch who had great power. Two Kings, besties as you call them, both secretly wanted her. One for power and one for love. The witch was torn between the two for they both held great qualities and to save her people she needed to choose wisely. It was to be settled over a dual. The King of the Fae won and so he claimed his prize and before he could commence the marriage he was sent off to war. He trusted his friend to watch over her and many months passed with no word from him and the witch and the other king...well we made love and she became pregnant. To save her and the child she was carrying inside her she waited for the return of her husband, but when he came back he was mad as hell and rejected her. He spent many nights drinking himself silly. Before long it became aware she was carrying a child and word got back to the king. He was in a rage and ordered the witch to be put to death by burning at the stake. His son Ares somehow convinced him otherwise and allowed her to give birth. There was no mistaking who the child belong to and he sent his army to retrieve me, but I came of my own free will and was to be sentenced to extension, and by the good graces of your mate I was freed, but never to return to the Fae realm again. You my dear sweet Emma are my daughter and heir to the throne which I sit on. I am King of the undead and all that is mystical and created except for Fae they wanted to be governed by their own laws because they believe they are superior. My name is Cyfrin."  "But..." I looked up at the crow which had flown away  "The crow insignia is that of the Fae."  "Oh yes, I know...Kalen, the fae king, always had a thing for crows. Not sure why- Ares is a wolf though."  "So that crow is not yours?"  He laughed, "No, but did give you a spook. Unfortunately, animals and I aren't exactly the best of accuqantences." He showed his teeth which were fangs, but sharper than Ares.  "What do you mean Ares is a wolf?"  "He can shift into a wolf just like Kalen can shift into a crow that is why there is such a large window in the condo...did you not hear me when I told you I was your father?"  "No, I heard you...I just don't want to believe it."  "And why is that?"  "Because you are the complete opposite of Jake."  "Ah yes her human companion."  "Why have you come now after all these years?"
