Author's POV: The drive to the outskirts was painfully quiet. Vanessa sat in the passenger seat, eyes fixed on the road ahead, but her mind was miles away. Chuck sat beside her, his hands gripping the wheel tightly, his knuckles white with tension. The officer they'd hired, a tall man named Miles, sat in the back, flipping through some old files on Jenny Thorpe. Vanessa felt a dull ache behind her eyes, the remnants of the headache that had struck her earlier. She hated how weak she’d been lately and how her wolf had been unpredictable since the attack.
