Chapter Four

"I'll come find you in a bit. A fight broke out between two Alpha staying here. I just want the ball to be over and done with,” he says after he parks. From what I've seen, his pack is enormous, and the pack house is a tall, sleek two-story building. “The maid will show you to your room and bring you food. The doctor said to rest, ok?” I nod. That's a good idea. I still feel tired, so tired that my eyes are closing again. There's a woman at the door who bows. I follow her until she stops in front of a room and bows again. It must be mine. I stand at the door, taking it in. It's a beautiful room with a big canopy bed and purple accents, but my appraisal is interrupted by a hand around my throat. It's large and warm, and I know it's Chuck because of the way the mate bond strums. He smells a little less minty and more with a hint of sweet berries, but I don't think about it as he puts his nose in my neck and mutters, ” Mate.” He walks us into the room and spins me around. He holds me against his bare chest as he kisses my neck, breathing hard. What got into him on the way here? “You're so beautiful,” he whispers raspily. “I want to touch you. I need to touch you.” Although I'm not complaining, I nod. Maybe it's what I need. I'm so tired of feeling out of control today. All thoughts are chased from my head as his hand slips under my blouse, unclasps my bra, and cups my n****e, drawing a gasp from my throat. I throw my head back as he punches the other and tweaks the two together. “You like that, Red?” “Yeah,” I mumble, wanting more. The sound of my blouse tearing doesn't even register as he crushes me to his chest. I shiver as my n*****s rub against him, sending jolts of pleasure down to my core. I feel him, hot and hard against my belly. Yes, this is what I need—a little distraction. He lifts me and backs us up, so I wrap my leg around his waist. He tossed all the books on the table down to the floor and set me on it. Breathing hard, he steps in between my legs, spreading them. I rest my hands around his neck as his hands find my c**t over my underwear and begin to rub. I moan deeply just as Chuck appears at the open door. I jolt. What the f**k? Chuck is at the door? Then who in the Goddess's name is this? I push away from his chest and tug my skirt down, wrapping my hand around me. Goddess, take me now. Did I just let a man who's not my mate touch me? Chuck is furious. My gaze swings from one man to the other. Oh. While the flame of embarrassment still burns bright, I understand why I made such a mistake. He's Chuck's twin brother. The only fundamental difference between Chuck and his mysterious twin brother is the length of his hair and his brown eyes. “Charles,” Chuck starts deceptively soft, “why the f**k were you touching my mate?” His hand flexes, clenching and unclenching, and I can see him begin to coil taut like a spring. Charles straightens, eyes fixed on Chuck. “Because she’s my mate.” “Bullshit!.” He roars and lunges. But it's true, the two brothers clawing at each other are both my mates. I feel the identical bond between both of them. “Chuck, please stop! He's right!” I see Chuck falter, giving Charles an advantage, and he punches him straight in the jaw. "Please stop," I gasp, moving forward as Chuck's head is flung to the side. “Stay back!” Now Charles is the one momentarily distracted, and Chuck punches his brother in the stomach so hard he doubles over with a groan. Charles slams his head into Chuck and they disengage both panting and groaning. I can't watch this anymore. They can do whatever the f**k they want, kill each other for all I care, but I don't have to have be here to see it. I don't know where I'm going, but I find the living room and sleep off on the couch. It feels like I was only asleep for a few hours, but when I wake up, I'm tucked into bed and back in the room. There's nothing out of place, I see, as the morning sunlight filters in through the open window. There's a steaming bowl of food beside me, and immediately, my stomach gives the loudest growl. I looked around, confirming there was no one here to hear that embarrassing sound before devouring the food. There’s a note at the bottom of the tray, and it reads, “I’m sorry, Red.” Oh yes, Chuck and Charles. I tense up when a knock sounds at the door, and while I'm anxious, anticipation surges through my body. I do want to see them “Come in.” The maid from yesterday pokes her head in, and I shove down my disappointment. “I'm here for the tray. Also, his highness sent you a dress for the ball tonight. I'll be here to help you dress at four, your highness.” “Never mind all that, just call me Vanessa.” The maid bows and says, “Anything you want, Miss Vanessa.” “What's your name? “Lilia.” Again, she bows and leaves. * I'm walking into the ballroom in a long dress of undulating silver. My makeup was handled, and my hair was pulled up into a high, curly bun. Lilia did an outstanding job. Reign always does my make-up well, too. I still haven't been able to call her. I slip into the ball, trying not to run my sweaty palms on my dress. Chuck finds me immediately. I thought he wasn't here, but it seems he was just avoiding me. Well, he can go screw himself. “Vanessa, wait. I just want to say my behavior since we met hasn't exactly been stellar. I will make it up to you, and I will do better.” Oh. My heart warms, and I begin to blush. “Thank you, Chuck. That actually means a lot.” “ I'll be right back, and.,” he hesitates for a moment, “I want to dance with you. Twice.” I nod with a smile. “And stay away from my brother, ok? Until I know what the hell he's playing at.” Oh, goddess, help me. “Chuck, I don't think he's playing at anything. I feel a bond with him, like I do with you.” I'm not even sure if he hears me or if he just doesn't just acknowledge my words. “Don't go anywhere, ok?” I stare at his back as he walks away. That man! I go to the buffet table and begin to eat when a whisper draws my attention. Someone is standing, their back resting against a pillar on the balcony. I know what dress, I've seen it before. And when it clicks, my mood sours. It's the dress Jenny wore yesterday to the office. It's a little too simple for a ball, but what the hell is she doing here, anyway? I storm toward her, intent on biting her ear off when she starts moving. “I know it's you, Bitch.” Jenny stops outside the courtyard. “Murderer, “ she whispers. It's Jenny, alright. I step toward her. "Look here, you b***h, I didn't kill -a." I'm tugged into a corner by a body that smells like Nate as a damp cloth covers my face. “Filthy Omega, disgracing me in front of my pack.” My eyes go wide as I struggle, but Nate holds me to him tightly. “When I'm done with you, you're going to plead for death.”
