Chapter 12

"It's okay, I accidentally knocked over the vase," Su Hua said, bending down to pick up the shattered pieces of porcelain. "I'll do it. Don't touch it, you might hurt your hand," Gu Beixian quickly entered the bathroom, pulled her aside, placed his phone on the sink countertop, and bent down to pick up the pieces. He forgot to hang up the phone. Su Hua found a trash can and handed it to him, advising, "Be careful." "My skin is thick; it won't cut through," Gu Beixian picked up a few large shards and tossed them into the trash. "Nonsense, there's no skin that can't be cut," Su Hua knelt beside him to help. Gu Beixian stopped her, "Those two years, I had a terrible temper, breaking things all the time. You must have been overwhelmed, cleaning up after me every day." Thinking of those difficult years, Su Hua felt a pang in her nose, tears almost falling. She quickly lowered her eyes and said gently, "I didn't feel overwhelmed, really." Gu Beixian stared at her long lashes for a moment, then said, "You have such a good temper; it's almost unreal." Recalling Xiao Yi's words, Su Hua asked softly, "Is my personality really boring?" Gu Beixian smiled faintly, "A bit." "I'll hit you!" Su Hua gently pushed his leg. Gu Beixian smiled and held her hand. Hearing the playful conversation on the phone, Chu Suosu angrily hung up. With a loud bang, she threw her phone onto the car seat. She was so angry that she didn't speak the whole way. Back at the Chu house. Hua Qirou saw her bandaged finger and angry expression, hurriedly asked, "What happened to your hand? Why are you so angry?" "My hand is fine, just a small injury." "Then why are you so upset?" Chu Suosu fumed, "That country girl was Gu Beixian's nanny for three years, and now he protects her so fiercely. I just said a few words about her, and he got upset and hung up on me. She picked up a broken vase, and he was afraid she'd cut her hand. He was taking me to the hospital tonight, but halfway there, he got a call from Xiao Yi saying Su Hua got into her colleague's car. He immediately got out and took a taxi to find her." Hua Qirou was puzzled, "If he cares so much about her, why did he divorce her?" Chu Suosu kicked off her high heels, "Who knows? Last time, Gu Beixian got drunk and said the divorce wasn't entirely because of me. Mentioning me was just a cover. I don't know if he was telling the truth or just angry." "It was probably just anger." Chu Suosu slipped on her slippers, sat on the couch, and the more she thought about today's events, the angrier she got. Hua Qirou comforted her, "Gu Beixian married Su Hua because she resembles you, which shows he can't forget you. You're the genuine article, why compare yourself to a counterfeit? Don't worry, take your time and give him a chance to accept you again." Chu Suosu frowned, "Seeing how well they get along, how can I not be anxious?" "Being anxious won't help. Think of a plan to win him back," Hua Qirou handed her a glass of water. Chu Suosu took the glass and pouted, "It's all your fault. A year ago, Gu Beixian could walk again, and I wanted to take a break from school and come back to find him, but you insisted on observing for another year. Now they have feelings for each other, and I'm almost out of the picture." Hua Qirou rolled her eyes, "Car accidents have sequelae. If we didn't observe carefully and he relapsed, would you take care of him in a wheelchair for life?" Chu Suosu fell silent, drinking her water. After a few quiet seconds, Hua Qirou asked, "Did Su Hua accept the check you gave her?" "No." Hua Qirou was surprised, "She didn't even take twenty million? Is her appetite that big? Three years ago, she married a paralyzed man for ten million, what's she pretending?" Chu Suosu got angry at the mention, "Do you know how arrogant she was? She threw the check in my face and said that if she hadn't married Gu Beixian three years ago, she could have earned ten million on her own." "With her own hands?" Hua Qirou sneered, "Is a restorer that skilled?" "I had someone investigate. Her grandfather, Su Wenmai, was famous in the industry, and she inherited his skills." "So what?" Hua Qirou laughed coldly, "If her hand is ruined, let's see how arrogant she can be." Chu Suosu's eyes widened, staring at her, "Mom, don't do anything rash!" A week later, at noon. Gubaozhai. Su Hua locked the restoration room and went downstairs to a nearby restaurant for lunch. At a Hong Kong-style restaurant, she ordered shrimp fried rice, found a seat by the wall, and ate quietly. Her gentle and serene demeanor, porcelain-white skin, delicate features, and graceful eating manner with ebony chopsticks made her stand out in the bustling restaurant. After finishing her meal and settling the bill, Su Hua took her bag and gracefully walked to the door, lifting her right hand to push the glass door. The door was difficult to push, so she used her left hand to help. Suddenly, someone rushed in from outside, crashing the door open. Su Hua tried to pull her hand back, but it was too late. A searing pain shot through her fingers. The pain was so intense that she nearly fainted. Her legs shook, and she crouched down, clutching her left hand, tears streaming down her face. Her four fingers were visibly swollen, the bones seemed broken, and blood seeped out, dripping onto the floor. In a daze, she heard a woman apologizing, "Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean it." The woman, dressed in a yellow delivery uniform and wearing a motorcycle helmet, pulled out a wad of cash and placed it at Su Hua's feet, "This is for your medical expenses. I have an urgent matter. Can we talk later?" Su Hua was in too much pain to speak. Through tear-filled eyes, she looked at her hand. Her hand, the hand she had painstakingly honed for nearly twenty years, inheriting all her grandfather's and his ancestors' skills. The hand she valued more than her life. Was now ruined. She trembled all over, her face pale, eyes filled with despair. By the time the restaurant owner came over, the person who had hurt Su Hua was long gone. The owner drove her to the hospital. After stopping the bleeding and getting X-rays, Gu Beixian arrived. Dressed in a high-end suit and tie, he had left his meeting halfway when he received the call about Su Hua's injury. The restaurant owner supported Su Hua out of the radiology department. She looked so frail, barely able to stand, eyes red and tearful, utterly lost. Anyone would feel heartbroken seeing her. Gu Beixian's face darkened. He stepped forward, taking Su Hua from the owner, suppressing his anger, and asked, "Who hurt her? Where is that person?" The owner, a woman in her forties, was a bit scared, her voice trembling, "Customers in the shop said it was a delivery person. She's already run away." Gu Beixian gritted his teeth, instructing his assistant, "Find her! Dig her out even if you have to turn the city upside down!" "Yes, Mr. Gu." The assistant sensed his boiling anger and didn't dare delay, immediately gathering people to investigate. The restaurant owner also hurriedly followed the assistant to cooperate with the surveillance. While waiting for the X-ray results, Gu Beixian helped Su Hua find a chair to sit on, holding her carefully as if cradling a baby. Su Hua was still trembling, her hands and feet cold. Gu Beixian unbuttoned his suit with one hand, took it off, draped it over her, and held her tightly, his chin resting on her head, his expression grim. When the X-ray results came out, the doctor said Su Hua's middle and ring fingers were broken and needed surgery to realign the bones. Gu Beixian arranged for the best orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Bai, to operate on Su Hua. Over an hour later, the surgery was done. After the observation period, Su Hua was moved to a ward, her fingers swollen like carrots, the broken fingers splinted, needing IV fluids. She was in a bad state, silent, lying there like a wooden doll, eyes filled with despair as if the sky had fallen. Gu Beixian watched her quietly for a while, then used a warm towel to wipe her face, fed her porridge, and gave her medicine. Su Hua obediently drank the porridge and took the medicine but didn't speak. Around eight in the evening, the person who hurt Su Hua was caught. The assistant approached Gu Beixian and whispered a few words. As he listened, Gu Beixian's expression grew colder, his jaw clenching, his brows twitching with anger. Taking a few deep breaths to calm down, he bent down and said to Su Hua, "I need to go out for a bit, I'll be back soon."
