Despite the cabin housing children, you would think so because of how quiet it is. I don’t hear any laughter or screaming, or even crying. At the doorway of the dark-stained wooden building, I pause with my hand on the latch. After taking a minute to wipe my wet face with the back of my hand, I draw in a deep breath, release it, and then push the door open. I think I expected cages or guards stood around prodding the children to silence. Maybe an enforcer or two glaring at the children until they stopped crying. But there is none of that. Guards or cages. The large space I step into is peaceful and warm. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a prison or a cage.
