“What's all this fuss about?” Charlotte asked, covering her nose and eyes from the aggressive smoke that engulfed them all.
“Lydia, this is Charlotte. Charlotte, this is Lydia,” Scott said as he opted out when he noticed his call from the Alpha's mansion.
“Charlotte, what brings you to the Blood River pack?” Lydia asked as she turned on the fire extinguisher to reduce the smoke.
“It's a long story. I don't even want to talk about it.”
“Why's that if I may ask?” Lydia asked as she obliged her to sit.
“It's a long, boring story.”
“As you can see, I'm bored and stressed out. So a boring story would be of good help to me.”
“What a full display of sarcasm,” Charlotte said as she smirked.
“Whatever, just tell me your story. Here's tea”
“You might regret it, my dear. Thanks for the tea. I really yearned for something to warm my body.” Charlotte said as she sipped her tea, crossing her lips as she felt the shivers disappearing from her body.
“Regret is a thing I've lived with all my life. So it's not a new thing.”
“That means we all have stories to tell.”
“Out with it, I hate suspense”
“Living without my father was something I tried hard to avoid, but hatred and thirst for the seat of Alpha drove many astray, and they took him away from me. My mother became the omega of the Velvet moon pack and ruled with the utmost justice and wisdom, but yet, as it's said, Hatred begat injustice. My mother faced injustice when she was killed by her own warriors in battle. Conri was the mastermind behind all this.”
“Who's Conri?” Lydia asked with an intriguing look on her face, showing her intense level of interest in Charlotte's story.
“Conri is a very cunning and decisive young man. He had waited seven years for the perfection of his plan. Killing my father, and creating wars that killed my mother. He stripped me of my post and tried to kill me. I fled for my life knowing fully well that Conri was bent on taking my life. He pursued me into the forest until I slipped and fell into the arms of Liam.”
“Liam, Liam. Wait, Liam the one-eyed monster?” Lydia asked, looking for further clarification on the person Charlotte was telling her about.
“He's not a monster. He's a normal being just like me and you.” Charlotte rolled her eyes.
“You're nothing compared to us,” Linda said as she walked out of the building they had been sitting outside.
“Why do you like eavesdropping?” Lydia asked with a sense of humor.
“Eavesdropping, you call it. To me, it's the only way I get to know people and their true nature.” Linda answered as she walked out.
“It seems your sister doesn't like me,” Lydia said sarcastically.
“How do you know she's my sister?” Lydia asked, with a surprised look on her face.
“There's a striking resemblance between you two and the mark on your wrist crowns it all” Charlotte answered confidently.
“This is strange. It's not yet up to an hour since we met. You've already discovered things about me that are still hidden from many. It's remarkable” Lydia complimented her sharp sight.
“Well, it's natural. I discover people before talking to them.” Charlotte said as she dropped her empty tea cup.
“It seems you've evaluated me well enough, so any new discoveries?”
“Not really, but there's a great certainty that we are good friends. So no need evaluating you further," Charlotte said in a mild voice.
“Interesting.”
“Sorry I didn't say this earlier. You have a stubborn nature, and it suits you," Charlotte said as they both laughed.
They both developed an interest in each other.
“So how did you meet Scott?” Lydia asked in a silent voice.
“I woke up in the forest where Scott took care of me, bought me clothes, and brought me here”
“It seems you've picked a keen interest in him. Has your wolf accepted him?” Lydia asked with a smile on her face.
“You're a witch, you're not supposed to know things about us. It's forbidden.”
“As you said before, I'm very stubborn in nature. I read books a lot, hence discovering things about my kind and other kinds of mortals.”
“Well, I don't know, but I feel this connection between me and him.”
“I advise you to kick that connection aside and have your focus elsewhere.”
“It's not for you to decide that for me. So let's keep that aside. What's your own story?” Charlotte asked with a sense of enthusiasm.
"My story is like a mild lemon. But I'll tell you anyway, because I trust you, want you as a friend and a sister I never had."
“Your story is forever locked in my heart.”
“Bacon hills is a very large state, we have vampires at the other end of the hills. We have werewolves here in the middle regions and at the other end, we have witches. This region is the largest because it's also filled with different wolf packs and Alphas, so there's always a tendency for war if there's an invasion of territory and that makes it so thrilling. My life is quite a shady one. My parents also died when I was little. My sister Linda treated me so badly that I had to grow and fend for myself.”
“Fend for yourself. What do you mean?”
“I had to suffer, casting little spells to get food from humans. It's an abomination, but yet my stubborn nature and growling stomach pushed me into committing that abomination, and I was ready to face all the repercussions that would befall me.”
