002: Signed Away

785 Words
“You’re married?” Damian’s voice was calm, but the look in his eyes made Elena nervous. Nobody spoke for a few seconds. Adrian quickly forced a smile and walked forward. “Mr. Blackwood, I didn’t expect you this early.” Damian ignored him completely. His eyes stayed on Elena “You disappeared.” Elena’s fingers tightened around the papers in her hand. “I think you have the wrong person.” “I never forget faces.” Vanessa looked between them in confusion. “You two know each other?” Elena immediately answered, “No.” At the same time, Damian said, “Yes.” The room became awkward instantly. Adrian frowned. “What’s going on?” Damian finally looked away from Elena and turned to Adrian. “Leave us alone.” Adrian stiffened. “Excuse me?” “I said leave.” The coldness in Damian’s voice made even Vanessa uncomfortable. Adrian cleared his throat. “Mr. Blackwood, with all due respect, Elena is still my wife.” Damian looked at him blankly. “Then why are you transferring her to me?” Adrian had no answer for that. Vanessa quickly jumped in. “It’s just a business arrangement.” Damian’s eyes moved to her slowly. “And who are you?” Vanessa smiled confidently and held Adrian’s arm tighter. “His girlfriend.” Elena looked away immediately. Damian noticed. Something dark crossed his face, but it disappeared quickly. “Interesting,” he said quietly. Adrian tried changing the topic. “About the contract....” “I’ll take her tonight.” Elena turned toward Damian immediately. “What?” Adrian looked relieved instantly. “Of course. That’s fine.” Elena stared at him in disbelief. “You already decided?” Adrian looked irritated again. “What exactly do you want me to do? Lose my company because of you?” “Because of me?” “You heard me.” Elena laughed softly, but there was no happiness in it. “You have been cheating on me, not just cheating but with the person I call my best friend, humiliated me, and you’re now blaming me for your company failing?” Vanessa rolled her eyes. “Can we stop going in circles?” Elena finally lost her patience. “You should shut your mouth up.” Vanessa’s expression darkened. “Watch your tone.” “Or what?” Elena snapped. “You’ll steal another woman’s husband?” “Enough,” Adrian said sharply. The room became quiet again. Damian watched everything silently. Then he suddenly asked, “Did she sign the papers?” “No,” Adrian answered. Damian looked at Elena. “Why?” Elena almost laughed at the question. “Because I’m not an object.” “No,” Damian said calmly. “But you are desperate.” Her brows pulled together immediately. “What does that mean?” Damian stepped closer slowly. “You know your husband doesn’t want you anymore.” The words hurt because they were true. Damian continued, “So you have two choices. Stay here with people who clearly don’t respect you… or come with me.” Vanessa laughed mockingly. “Wow. That almost sounded romantic.” Damian ignored her. His eyes stayed on Elena. “You don’t belong here.” Elena hated that part of her agreed with him. Adrian suddenly spoke again. “Elena, stop making this difficult and just go pack your things.” The calmness in his voice shocked her more than anything else. “You really want me gone that badly?” Adrian looked away for a second before answering, “This is what’s best.” “For you. For only you Adrain” He didn’t answer. That was answer enough. Elena swallowed hard and looked down at the papers again. Then slowly, she signed them. Vanessa smiled immediately. Adrian relaxed. But Damian kept watching Elena carefully. Like he knew she was seconds away from breaking. The moment Elena dropped the pen, Damian took the papers from the table. “Good.” Elena looked at Adrian one last time. “I loved you,” she said quietly. Adrian’s expression shifted slightly, but only for a second. Then Vanessa held his arm again, and the moment passed. Elena nodded slowly like she finally understood everything. Then she turned toward the stairs. “I’ll get my things.” As she walked away, Damian suddenly spoke again. “Leave the ring.” Elena stopped moving. Her wedding ring suddenly felt heavy on her finger. Slowly, she removed it. Then placed it on the table in front of Adrian. This time, he looked uncomfortable. But Elena didn’t care anymore. She walked upstairs without looking back.
