The ideas for ‘I’m Back’ arose out of experiences I had when I returned to my old home town to pick up the threads of my former life. It was while I was teaching short story writing to survivors of domestic violence that these ideas took shape. Often, victims flee and going back is hard. In my case, the ghosts proved too strong and after two years, I sold up and moved back to Melbourne. ‘I’m Back’ is a story of a survivor’s resilience and determination to carve a new life for herself in her old town. All of the characters are fictitious and are not even loosely based on anyone real.
