LAURA
Having had Rhett doke me like a demon lusting after the body of a woman, I slipped out of his bed, made to the wardrobe, and there, I saw Gova’s clothes lined out.
I had betrayed her in a way, but her man was the one who got me in bed.
I never intended to.
I picked one of her silk gowns, and gently, wore it and left the room, so as to keep away from waking him and having him see me leave him forever.
I had sworn never to have him come to me anymore, having given him what men liked the most in women.
I was careful with the stairs, and the eyes that could be staring from the corners. I was not ready to have anyone gossip about me milling around the fort where princes lodge.
Stepping into the walkway, I met no one, so I trailed my way to my chamber, only to meet Aden waiting outside.
“Aden.” I called on him with a calm voice.
He spurned to me and bowed his head.
He was such a sweet loyal gamma, and he always made me wish I had always had him at my side as my gamma from the day my life on earth began.
“Ma’am.”
I came close to him with my hands folded, just the way bosses do.
I knew he was the only one who can keep Rhett away from my chamber, because I could always guess he hates Rhett.
He had been unfair to him the previous time he visited, but this time, I want him to throw him out if ever he dared visit my chambers again.
“What are you doing out here?” I posed.
“I’m waiting for you. You have a visitor who identified herself as Casey.” He announced.
“Casey?” I raised my eyebrows.
The last time I came in contact with her, she was unconscious in the healer’s chamber.
“Yes, ma’am.” He said with his head still bowed before me.
I raised my eyebrows and my shoulders and drew closer to him.
I was surprised he did not stop Cassey from coming in and waiting in my chamber, just the same way he stops others from getting to me unless permitted.
But that was just a side thought. I had something more important than being amazed he let Cassey in but he found it difficult to let Qwen in.
“You know, Aden, I don’t want Rhett anywhere around my chamber from today onwards.”
He narrowed his eyes as those words of mine met his ears.
I was the one who told him the other day to let Rhett in if ever he shows up at my chambers, but now, I had suddenly taken my words and ditching out something different.
“Do you get me, Aden?”
He shook his head.
He was the same Aden who doesn’t think twice while obeying orders, and the order this time, I believe is some kind of an order he must have been dreaming of all his damn life.
“Good. I don’t want him around me, get it?”
He shook his head, and I went off, edging my way into my chamber through the chamber door that leads into my chamber.
In the chamber, I met Cassey sitting on a sofa in the big room with a food basket.
I knew her well.
She was a kitchen freak.
So obsessed with cooking.
I smiled as my eyes met hers, and she stood up and we both buried each other in a tight hug, sharing each other’s warmth and smiling as we did so.
“I didn’t know you were back from the healer’s chamber.” I said as we remained clasped in each other’s hug.
“I came back a weak ago, but I didn’t want to stress anyone for the visiting sake, that’s why I decided to remain calm until I return to my hubby.”
I knew at once what she meant by her hubby.
She had no other hubby apart from cooking, and she was such a perfect being in her cooking hubby.
She makes the best recipes and she is such a cheerful type, too.
“I knew it when I saw the food basket.” I said in her ear, and we broke the hug.
She held my hand and led me to the sofa on which she was sitting before I stepped into the big room where I entertain visitors.
“Have this.”
She passed me the food basket.
In the basket were about three flasks, and I knew they must contain three different recipes, but I was not in a haste to open them and check out what was in them.
There were other things to discuss, other than food.
“So, how are you doing?” I posed and dropped the basket at my side.
She smiled and raised her shoulders in response.
“I’m fine, but I lost the baby.”
I knew that was the first thing she would say. It was the saddest thing that happened to her, and the palace under the asshole, Killian, had not been able to nab whoever was responsible for poisoning her.
Had it been Ricky, he could have done something, but why would I even imagine that butthole was there?
I waved off the thought of the heartless git called Ricky.
“I’m sorry, Cassey, but as long as there is life, there is hope.”
I had my hands on her shoulder, in the manner with which people rest their hand on the shoulder of their friends while consoling them over their lose.
She shook her head and hugged me, making me realize she had come because she needed a shoulder to lean on.
“I hope so, Laura.” She said with a weak voice, just like her brother, Rhett, who got me to his bed after weeping into my ears.
“And what do we have here?”
We broke the hug and turned to the corner from where the query braced our ears.
It was Qwen.
