A New Family
The welcoming committee of me, Jimmy, Papa, Iris, and Glory waited by the front porch of my aunt and uncle’s new home. A fancy carriage led a small parade of wagons down the graceful lane, limbs arched over the road forming a canopy.
The driver of the carriage slowed to a stop and jumped down to open the door. I couldn’t help but notice a wagon had a china cabinet standing tall in it. Who brings a china cabinet from South Carolina? I was about to find out.
The driver dressed in an elegant suit put out a step stool and assisted a woman, whom I assumed to be my aunt, from the carriage. The first thing I noticed was how overdressed, at least for around here. Exactly who was she trying to impress?
