Chapter 25 New York Although my heart still yearned for Thomas’s company, I had grown accustomed to his absence. Our packed trunks, lined like soldiers, waited in the parlor. On Monday, we were scheduled to depart with Mr. Larkin and his sister, Miss Caroline, as our chaperones. I adored Miss Caroline.
