Chapter 8 Ellis woke late Sunday morning to find Jive sitting by the side of the bed, staring at him. Given the hour, Ellis was surprised the dog hadn’t tried to wake him to let him out much earlier. He slid out of bed, opened the gallery door, and chuckled when Jive instantly dashed out and down the steps to the backyard. Having to take care of his own pressing need to pee, Ellis went into the bathroom, dealt with the problem and then turned on the shower. As he stood under the hot water, he thought about the previous night and all it implied. I’m in a relationship—or the beginning of one at least—with a man I like and who actually seems to care about me. All right, who does care, from what he said. Is it too soon?
