Lily POV I waited until Ayla and Dally had finished their conversation before looking back into the open cabinet. For several seconds, none of us spoke. Four enormous leather-bound volumes rested inside. Not books. Ledgers. Each was bound in dark green leather, thick enough that I doubted I could comfortably lift one by myself. Gold leaf had been pressed into every spine. EASTON, AYLA. SANDOVAL, DALLAS. BISHOP, LILYANA. HASTINGS, GUNNAR. My breath caught. "They're about us." Dally stepped beside me. "How d'you know?" "Mr. Ashwood didn't collect things." I reached toward my own volume. "He collected information." He looked into the cabinet. "Oh. Also our names are on the front. My fingertips brushed the leather. Cold. Smooth. Old. I slid my hands beneath the edge and pulled.
