I arrived at work with today's task on my mind. Everything I have to do feels like a heavy burden on my shoulders. I sat in front of my laptop to draft out something for the day. I'll go brief my boss about the day in ten minutes. I heard he's especially on edge today, one wrong move and you'll be scolded like never before. How is that even possible when he doesn't talk much?
"Let's see what we're doing for today."
I clicked a folder on my computer. Employment process and staff checks. The main goal is to fish out Thor's pawns and eliminate them. But how will I know when he always makes sure to avoid suspicion?
I twirled on my chair as if it'll make my thought process faster, it did. I stopped and opened a new page on the computer, typed in childhood.
Thor doesn't recruit loyal people, he recruits people he has something against. People with something to lose, people like me.
He most likely forged their papers and childhood too. Everything will be cross checked for a week without making anyone suspicious of what is going on.
The only problem is this company has too many staff and I don't think I can handle this by myself.
I flipped my pen and tapped the table with it. Who in this company would be of help? The only trustworthy person is the owner currently. It's impossible for me to meet him for help on this.
Orion Kade. He can do it for me, He's agile and brilliant too. I messaged him. He should reply soon. I need their DNA for accurate results. I need a way to pull that off, but I know I won't run out of ideas. No way.
One minute to go. I adjusted my hair in my screen reflection, took the tablet and went to his office. I got to his door, gathered all my courage and knocked once.
I opened the door, he was sitting with a pile of paperwork on his table. I would be angrier too if I worked hard like this and someone tried to piss me off.
"Your daily briefings, sir," I said, turning on the tablet screen. "You're checking out the departmental store in a nearby town, a meeting with Exodus Airlines and—"
The tablet suddenly went off, i thought I had it charged. I turned it on, hoping it would at least hold on for me to see the last one, but it came on and shut down immediately, giving me no chance.
"And what, Miss Morgan?" He looked up, his green eyes piercing mine.
I feel like he's going to rip me apart. "The tablet shut down all of a sudden, sir. I'm sorry," I apologized.
His jaw clenched. "What is the tenth basic manner?" he asked.
The tenth manner, i don't even remember the first. All I remember is what I demonstrate daily. My breathing got heavy.
"You don't take your work seriously enough, Miss Morgan."
His eyes didn't leave mine. I struggled to keep mine away, but they always met his.
"I'm sorry, sir. I just thought—"
He waved.
"Get it charged quickly." He dismissed me.
Thank goodness, i took it back to my office to plug in the tablet. The tablet just had to screw me up like that.
My thoughts drifted back to Thor. If I don't sort out that policy today, I'm going to feel like I wasted a day of my life again. I can't stand those thoughts.
My landline rang, i picked it up.Lucian Blackwood needs me to come. I carried my bag and hurried to Lucian Blackwood's office. He was already at the door.
Today he has more bodyguards with him. He rarely uses three.
"Follow me." He started walking fast, i kept up with his pace. He stopped abruptly, checked his time and turned to me. "Cancel everything on my schedule except the meeting with Exodus." He continued walking.
"Okay sir." I started putting a call through while on the move, when we got downstairs, the identification system had been upgraded. Everything, including the face ID.
How can things change so quickly? I just passed here an hour ago, or did I not notice because I was almost half asleep?
Employees were buzzing in and out, some had different ID cards. We were about to exit when I placed my hand on the fingerprint identification and it confirmed me.
"I didn't do the fingerprint identification and I was confirmed just now," I said, not meaning for Lucian to hear, but his hearing ability is top-notch.
"We have every employee's DNA," he explained.
I slowed down. The DNA, they already had the DNA. I spent the entire morning trying to figure out how to get samples without making anyone suspicious, I was already thinking of ways to collect them one by one. And they already had all of it, my DNA too.
"Okay sir." I smiled nervously, i checked the company app and saw the new policy. Turns out Lucian had handled what I was thinking about this morning, his way is better than any I could come up with.
Each employee had their status, either checked and passed, checked and failed, under checking, or yet to be checked. I clicked on my profile to check mine, nothing. Maybe it didn't load, i refreshed the page. Still nothing.
I clicked on Orion Kade's profile, checked. I went back to mine, nothing.
Out of all the employees in the company, I wasn't put up for checking. Even Orion Kade was checked.
