The last word from him made me feel like I was slowly going crazy. I wanted to get out of there this very second. I looked at his face, totally unpredictable, like nothing around him could reach him. I walked out of his office without saying a word, heading somewhere I could feel better, not what I’ve been reduced to.
What a life, I sighed when I got there and rested on the railings, looking down at the city streets below.
Mia’s call came through and I picked it.
“Hey baby,” her voice came through from the other side.
“Hello, how was your day?” I asked in a low voice.
“You don’t really sound good. What’s up? Spill it,” she said.
“It’s just a little workplace problem,” I lied to make her feel better.
“Whoever it is tell me I’ll fight for you.”
“I wish I could but this time we stepped into their territory.”
“Your boss?”
“Hmm.”
“Your handsome cool boss is actually giving you a problem?”
“I never said he was cool... Today I tried cursing him out and breaking his rules just for him to let me go.”
“So he didn’t?”
“No.”
“What the heck, it’s like you’re starring in a crazy drama for real,” Mia said loudly from the other side.
“Yes… he built his own system, and I’m just playing in it and I don’t know what to do.”
“You could come back home if everything wasn’t such a mess,” she said.
“I wouldn’t be here in the first place.”
“Hope you’ll be alright I heard Kayden will be moving to the USA for the audience, his popularity has increased.”
“The higher the better,” I replied.
“I’ll call you back. I have to go my boss needs me.”
“Alright, bye,” I said, and the call ended.
I crouched down and felt the breeze on my face, then stood again and stared down at the streets. The building is almost twenty floors. Getting here isn’t easy.
My thoughts aligned, you can’t survive a fall from here. This is it, I have nothing to lose. Let’s go all in.
I ran back into the building like I wasn’t sad a minute ago, it was almost six, and the light in his office was still on. Not as I care if he works his ass off, he’s earning it.
I opened the door only to find he wasn’t there. I packed my things and went to a quiet place where I could still see his office if he left.
"Now this is how I get a hold of my life. That trap could become a comfortable abode and my weapon to bring my enemies down," I whispered.
A smile crept onto my face, and I worked around what I plotted. A few minutes passed, and I saw him getting into his car. I got out and entered the car I rented for the night.
I sat for a while, gathering my inner strength, and pressed the pedal. I started following him.
We turned onto a narrow road. His car stopped. I parked ahead to avoid suspicion and entered the alley fully.
In the rearview mirror, I saw him get down. A man in his fifties approached him. Is this where he always comes after work? That man reminds me of Thor. Illegal deals.
I observed them closely, and then he looked in my direction. That’s not my boss, that’s Director Orion Kade. The lights in the alley flickered and went off.
This is dangerous. I tried to reverse and leave, but I hit something. A tall silhouette approached.
The figure stopped in front of my car. My heart skipped as I gripped the wheel tightly. He lifted a torch and pointed it at my face.
He came closer and raised the light. His face had a deep scar, visible even in the harsh lighting. I had no space to think clearly anymore. He opened the door, pulled out a table knife, and dragged me out by my hair.
“Who are you with?” His voice was rough.
“I’m… I’m alone,” I stuttered.
He yanked me and I hit the floor, my wrist scraping slightly. He pulled me up again and placed the knife near my head, leading me into the building near the alley.
Inside, I saw Orion Kade seated upstairs, watching. He looked at me, I couldn’t tell what he would do next.
“We found her in the alley. She seems like a bug.”
“She’s with me,” Orion Kade said, standing up.
“How will you bring someone along? Are you planning to snitch?” the man asked.
“I didn’t bring her along. This is personal,” Orion explained.
“She won’t go scot-free,” the man said.
“We could strike a deal. Take the money and leave her,” Orion proposed.
“I’ll give you my own terms,” he said.
“Terms? You missed the point. I’m not negotiating, I’m being fair.”
“You rule your space, I do here. Grab her,” the man ordered.
“Touch her and die. I can make one call that ends right here. I wonder what Lucian will say if you hurt his woman.”
Everything went still.
