You thank God that Martin’s birthday falls on a weekend; with the amount of alcohol they’re stacking up, you wouldn't survive work the next day. Sunny insisted that you and Sally stay at her house starting Friday night. Her excuse was that she needed to set everything up in the morning and then spend the afternoon getting the three of you ready. You reminded her that since it isn't a formal party, there’s no need to overdress. But Sunny, being Sunny, didn't even listen and just walked out of the room. You threw a pillow at her, but it hit the door instead. Sally just told you to chill while she scrolled through her phone on the bed. "You know you won't win against her," Sally said. "That’s why I brought my own clothes—just in case she decided to doll me up in hers." "Oh my god! You cheater! You should've told me earlier!" You groaned and pulled at your hair. "In my defense, I did tell you, but you didn't think it was important to dress up," Sally smirked. You glared at her. "Ugh! Fine. But I am not wearing her clothes. Period." "We’ll see," Sally laughed playfully, and soon you were both caught in a pillow fight. None of you slept much that night, which rarely happens since you usually prefer to recharge your energy alone. You all woke up a bit later than planned, but it didn't matter, there wasn't actually that much to prepare. Sunny had just exaggerated the situation. By late afternoon, everything was set. The food was scheduled to arrive half an hour before the party. "Now, let’s doll up!" Sunny announced. You felt like dying at that moment. You and Sunny fought for a while because she wanted you to wear something so revealing you felt like a hooker. You aren't conservative when it comes to clothes, but with "close strangers"—aka Martin’s friends—around, you definitely weren't wearing that. Finally, Sunny gave in. You both agreed on a navy, flowery dress that fell below your knees. It was fitted from the bust to the waist, with a neckline low enough to show some cleavage and long, transparent sleeves. You paired it with casual shoes, happy with your choice. Sally went with a similar red dress, but hers had a slit up to her mid-thigh and short sleeves, paired with black heels. As for Sunny? It would be a lie to say she looked anything less than gorgeous. She chose a form-fitting black dress with a low neckline, long sleeves, and a slit to her mid-thigh, accented by a golden belt. Fashion over comfort, you thought, rolling your eyes. Martin finally rolls out of bed and wanders out, his hair a mess from sleep. He catches a glimpse of Sunny all dressed up and manages a sleepy "Wow" before ducking back into his room to shower. Sunny shouts after the "dumbass," annoyed that the guest of honor is acting like this is just any other day. She storms back into the room, venting about how he’s already getting on her nerves. You and Sally exchange an "I told you so" look; you both knew Martin didn't care much for the party details. However, one sharp glare from Sunny is enough to get you both moving to clear the makeup off the table. After another shout from his sister, Martin quickly showers and dresses. He tells her to chill—and earns a smack for his efforts. He eventually gives in, feeling a bit sorry that she spent so much energy preparing everything. The least he can do is get ready quickly. Just as he’s finishing, his phone rings. "Very rude. You aren’t even out here to greet your friends," a voice says. "Oh, you're here already? Okay, I'm coming out." "Better be quick, or I’m going home." "Don’t be an ass, Dylan," Martin mutters, rolling his eyes as he makes his way out. He suddenly remembers you are there, too, and a mischievous smile creeps across his face. He tries to hide it before anyone notices, but he’s dying to see how Dylan will react to you. Martin hasn't actually seen you or Sally yet. His last memory of you was from the middle of the night, when the three of you pulled him into a massive bear hug to wish him a happy birthday. He almost died in that hug, but he was happy to accept the presents you all gave him.
