Aurora’s pov.
Luna stirred in her sleep, looking pale, her breathing became shallow the moment she saw the flickers of small fire casting long shadows on the wooden wall in the corner of the room.
I sit beside her, pressing a damp cloth against her forehead, sweat beads on her skin, her body fighting whatever nightmares haunt her.
She doesn't know who she is. Maybe that's a blessing; when the time comes, the truth will finally be revealed.
My heart was heavy with the weight of the truth; I watched her leave a sad look on my face; if she knew what had happened—what she had lost could break her completely.
The past is a cruel thing, full of wounds that never truly heal.
“You were once powerful” I whisper, my finger tightened around the cloth.
Luna kept mute without any response; she was too deep in her dreams and also lost in a world that I couldn't see.
I drifted my gaze to the portion of the bottle resting on the table. The dark liquid swirls inside, holding the power to unlock everything she has forgotten.
But should I use it?
I reached for the bottle as the thought kept lingering in my head. If I gave it to her she would remember everything and every memory she had lost—the pain, the betrayal, the love she once had.
But if I don't she will stay in the fragile peace, unwaring of the storms that wait beyond her memories.
A whisper escaped her lips which made me freeze.
Then, she speaks.
“Ryder…..”.
At first, I could imagine why the name kept stroking in her lips. I could hear her voice repeatedly.
My finger curls into a fist. I know that name too well. Luna's voice was above a whisper but it was enough to send a chill through me.
Ryder.
The one she loved.
The one who left her to die.
My heart pounds as I watch Luna shift in bed, breathing unevenly and waiting to see if she will wake, but she only turns onto her side, lost once again in sleep.
I slowly exhaled, my mind racing. Why is she calling for him now? After all this time, after everything he had done?
Then a sharp knock struck at the door, making me startled.
I rise to my feet, glancing once more at Luna before crossing the room. The door creaked open as I pulled on it.
A familiar face greets me—Elara, the healer. Her silver hair glows in the moonlight, her piercing green eyes filled with warnings.
“Something is not right, Aurora. We need to talk” she said, stepping inside.
My nerves were on the edge as I closed the door behind her. “What's it? You look worried”.
She hesitated, glancing at Luna's sleeping form. “Did she remember anything? Or has she started recovering? Isn't she?”
I stiffen. “She spoke his name. I heard her twice”.
Elara exhales rubbing her temples. “This isn't good news; it's bad, Aurora. If she quickly remembers everything, it could destroy her”.
I already knew that. But hearing it from Elara makes it more real. “What do I do now?”.
Elara looks at the portion on the table, grimacing her expression. “You can either let her memories return naturally–or you can stop them. It Is your choice. The ball is in your hands”.
My throat tightens. “If I could hear you clearly, do you mean erasing her memories?”
She nods. “It's the only way to keep her safe. The past is full of pain and if she relieves it all at once, it could break her mind.
My chest aching as I glance back to Luna. How can I decide something like this? She deserves to know the truth….but at what cost?
Elara steps closer, lowering her voice. “If Ryder finds out she's still alive, he may come after her and you which will put us all in danger”
The word sent a shiver down my spine. Ryder is dangerous. He's not the same wolf I once knew. If he comes, Luna has survived it, he won't stop until he has her again.
And I won't let this happen.
I turned back to Elara, my decision weighing heavily on me.
“What if she remembers everything and decides to go back to him?” I ask.
Elara's eyes darkened. “Then she'll be walking into her destruction; that would be her worst decision.”
Luna shifts again in her sleep, her face twisting in distress. I step closer, brushing a strand of hair from her face. She looks so fragile, so lost.
I can’t let her go back to him.
But I also can’t keep the truth from her forever.
Elara places a gentle hand on my shoulder. “Think carefully, Aurora. Once she remembers, there’s no turning back.”
I swallow hard, my mind spinning. Do I help her remember, or do I let her live in blissful ignorance?
And if she does remember… will she ever forgive me?
I stared at Luna with a pounding heart. Her lips part, and she whispers his name again.
“Ryder”.
A chill runs down my spine. She had begun remembering faster than I expected. This wasn't supposed to happen–is not even yet time.
Elara grips my arms. “Aurora, we don't have time; if she's already dreaming of him, that means the bond hasn't broken yet.
My breath catches. “How? I don't understand. What do you mean?”.
Elara's expression becomes grim. “If Ryder marked her before everything happened, the mate bond might still be intact. That means he can feel her–sense her”.
I take a step back. “No. It's impossible. They can't bond because he left her for dead”.
Elara shakes her head. “Maybe he thought she was dead. But if he realizes she's still alive….”
Before she could proceed further a loud crash outside makes the both of us jump. My wolf stirs sensing danger.
Luna suddenly gasps, snapping her eyes, but they aren't the soft, confused eyes of a lost girl anymore.
They glow.
Wild. Unfamiliar. Powerful.
She grabs my wrist with inhuman strength, her nails digging into my skin.
“Aurora,” she breathes, her voice both hers and something else entirely.
Then she asks the question that chills me to my core—
“Why did you lie to me?”
