The connection

Luna's pov. “You lied to me! Why do you do that?” I clutch my head with a trembling voice, trying to make sense of the storm raging inside me. Aurora's eyes widened. “What are you talking about? What do you mean?”. She asked, concerned about lacing her tone. My thoughts were a tangled mess, and I couldn't figure out who lied; I pressed a hand to my chest, feeling a dull ache that wouldn't easily fade. Could it be Ryder…..or someone else? I kept trailing along the rough wooden walls, trying to understand what I just dreamt. Everything became blurry; my head kept aching as I paced the healer's hut, but it did nothing to calm me; the air was thick with the scent of herbs. Then I felt lost–no past, no future, just me alone with my overwhelming confusion. Then it happens. A sharp pull tightened around my chest, making my breath hitch; it was strong, demanding, and familiar. I buckle my knees gripping the edge of the table to steady myself. My vision became blurry and then I saw him. Alpha Ryder. He was too close to me, his dark eyes bore into mine. His lips move but there is no sound reaching me. I could only feel my pulse racing but before I could react, everything turned black. I wake up with a sharp gasp, my body drenched with sweat. The huts spin around me. “Luna! Are you alright?” Aurora quickly rushes to my side, her heart panting heavily pressing a cool cloth against my forehead. “You look pressed, what happened? What did you see?”. I swallow hard trying to catch my breath. “Hmmm,” I whisper. “I saw him….” Aurora's stiffens. “Ryder?”. I instantly nodded, my fingers instinctively touching my neck, my skin burning when I saw it—where I felt it. I felt a mark, it was a mate mark. “But that's not possible, how could this be?” I murmur, my voice barely above my breath. “If Ryder rejected me…..why do I still bear this mark?”. Aurora's breath catches as she stares at me. “What do you mean, how can you still bear his mark?”. I push myself up ignoring the dizziness. My fingers trembled as I traced my neck where the mark burned in my vision. But when I look in the mirror, there's nothing. “I saw it, Aurora,” I whisper. “I saw the mark; it was right here in my body.” Her lips pressed into a thin as she hesitated. “Luna … that's not possible; I guess you're still dreaming while you're awake because if Alpha Ryder rejected you t, the bond would have faded”. “But it hasn't,” I snapped, frustration bubbling inside me. “Could it be an imagination or just an illusion? I can sense his presence, and I can still feel him around me; something needs to be done.” The word leaves my mouth, and then, from that moment, a sharp pang shoots through my chest. I clutch at my fist gasping. It’s like an invisible force is pulling me, calling me. My body responds before my mind can process it. My legs move toward the door. “Luna! Where are you going?” Aurora’s voice is distant, like an echo. I don’t answer. I can’t. Something stronger than my will is guiding me, pushing me forward. The night air is cool against my burning skin as I step outside. I sank my feet into the damp earth, but I could barely feel it. My senses are on high alert, and my body is trembling with an unknown force. Then a voice came through—it was his voice. “Luna”. My heart slams against my ribs, making me freeze and then I slowly turn to see him. Alpha Ryder. His piercing eyes locked onto mine, filling with something I couldn't even understand, he was tall and commanding. His presence alone is enough to set my nerves on fire. But I don't back down. “You again,” I breathe, my voice shaking with a mix of anger and confusion. “Why are you here? What do you want?”. His jaws tightened, his expression unreadable. “I should be asking you the same question”. The pull between us became unreadable. I feel it like a rope tying us together and dragging me closer. My body betrays me, moving an inch forward before I force myself to stop. “You rejected me,” I say, my voice firm despite the whirlwind inside me. “So why do I still feel this?”. Ryder watches me in silence, his hands clenched at his sides, then without warning, he reaches out, gripping my wrist. I could feel his touch, his hands cool sending shivers down my spine, igniting a spark between us. It was a burning heat surging through my veins, overwhelming and intoxicating. My breath hitches, and I see it again–flashes of my vision. The mark. The connection everything kept waving through my sight. His grip slightly tightens. “I believe you still feel it, don't you?” His voice was low and dangerous. I try to pull away, but I can't; my body refuses to listen; it is as if I have been trapped. “What do you do? What's happening?” I curiously asked. “Tell me why is this happening?”. Ryder sharply exhales, his gaze never leaving mine. “That's because the bond was never truly broken”. His words hit me like a punch to the chest. “What bond? Where? With who?” My voice was barely above a whisper. “I rejected you,” Ryder says, his voice tight, controlled. “But something stops it. Something….. stronger….than me”. The world tilts. My breathing quickens. “That’s not possible,” I murmur. “Rejections don’t fail.” “Unless there’s a reason,” Ryder counters, his grip on my wrist unwavering. My mind races. If the rejection didn’t break the bond, then… What does that mean for us? I stare up at him, my pulse thundering in my ears. “Then what are we now?” He doesn’t answer. Instead, his eyes flicker—golden, intense, filled with something I can’t decipher. And then, he whispers the words that change everything. “You were never meant to be free of me, Luna.” My breath catches. A shiver runs down my spine. “What does that mean?” I whisper, my voice barely audible. Ryder’s jaw tightens, and for the first time, I see it—the hesitation in his eyes. “There’s something you don’t know.” The air grows thick with tension. My heart pounds. “What are you hiding from me, Ryder?”
