Ryder's pov
The room felt so cool as usual, as I stared at my beta, Selena; her face became tense, clenching her hands at her side as if something was wrong.
“What's it?” I demanded, and my voice became sharp.
Selena hesitates, she looks at me as if weighing her words carefully. I don't have time for hesitation.
“Tell me, Selena. Now!”.
She took a deep breath. “There's something you should know about Luna”.
My stomach tightens at her name. The pain of her leaving is still fresh. I masked my emotions, keeping my expression cold.
“What happened to her? What's it you want to tell me?” I ask.
Selena comfortably shifts. “Luna wasn't alone when she left; she left with someone.”
My wolf restlessly stirs inside of me. My jaws tightened. “How? What do you mean?”.
Selena hesitates again, making my patience snap. My eyes locked onto her as I stepped closer.
“Who was with her? Tell me the truth, and don't hide things from me.” My voice comes out as a growl.
He swallows hard before whispering. “Your twin brother left with her”.
The word hit me like a punch to the guts catching my breath while spinning the room.
Twin brother?
“I can't believe this,” I say, hitching my hand on my head and hoarding my voice. “That's impossible. I don't have a twin”.
Selena refused to back down, she tried to convince me more. “You need to see for yourself”.
My fist clenched. Anger burns through me. “Who is he? And where is he?”.
Selena takes a step back. “I know this is hard to believe Ryder, but—-”
I cut her off. “Where is the so-called person you called my twin?”.
Selena sighs. “We tracked their scent to the eastern border. They are hiding in the abandoned village”.
My mind races. If this is true then my entire past has been a lie.
I made a mistake rejecting her but she left me for someone who might be my blood.
The betrayal stings deeply.
I took a deep breath trying to control the storm inside me. “Gather the warriors. We must leave now.”
“Can you exercise some patience, Ryder? We can't just rush what isn't certain.” Selena interjected.
“Are you trying to oppose my decision?”
“No sir”. She replied, frightened.
“Then get the warriors ready now!”.
Selena nods and rushes out. I stand there, my chest rising and falling heavily. My wolf growls inside me, craving answers, demanding justice.
Twin brother? What the hell is going on?
And why did Luna leave with him?
My mind battles with various questions, it is a mystery that threatens to destroy everything I thought I knew.
Who is this supposed twin, and what does he know about Luna?
Selena came back and handed me a photo. My hands shook as I grabbed it. My jaw dropped when I saw Luna and a man who looked exactly like me.
I couldn't believe It at first. I was shocked because he had the same hair, the same jaw, and the same piercing eyes.
“What the hell is this? And why does he look like me?”
“That's proof that you have a twin brother,” Serena said. “But they left together willingly”.
My wolf loudly growled inside me.
“Find them and bring them here” I commanded.
“We are still tracking them. I guess they cover their scent like they vanished”.
I paced the room clenching my hands into fists. “Why would she leave with him? Is she aware I’m twin?”.
“I think she knows who he is”. Selena said.
“I want every tracker on this,” I ordered. “There's something I need to find out. Find them now!”.
“Yes, Alpha”. Selena bowed and left.
I stared at the photo again. The man looked so much like me and it was scary.
Could he be my twin? But no one told me I had a twin brother.
I couldn't bear it anymore so I stormed into the pack archives. The shelves were filled with old books, scrolls, and records.
“Show me the birth records,” I growled at the keeper.
He nodded and brought out a dusty box.
My finger searched through the papers until I found mine. Ryder Blackwood. Born on a blood moon night.
I kept scrolling until I saw another name.
Rayden Blackwood.
Same date. Same time.
“No…this is unbelievable” I whispered.
It was true
I had a twin.
And Luna had left with him.
Later that night. I couldn't sleep. I sat on my bed staring at the ceiling.
I kept having memories of Luna's scent lingering In my room. It was sweet and warm.
Was it all a lie?
Was she meant to be my mate?
While I was still contemplating my phone buzzed.
It was a message from Selena. “We found tracks near the river. We're heading east".
I jumped up, grabbed my jacket, and ran out.
I shifted into my wolf and took off into the night.
The scent was faint but there.
Luna….had someone else and it was him.
I followed the trail until it disappeared near a cave.
I walked slowly, then I shifted back.
“Luna?” I called out.
Silence.
Then a voice echoes back.
“You're too late, brother; we finally meet.”
I froze.
It was him.
Rayden.
He stepped out from the shadows. Same face. Same body. But his eyes were colder. Darker.
“I didn't think you’d come so soon,” he said.
“What do you want from me?” I growled.
“I don't need anything from you,” he smirked. “But I just need to show you the truth”.
“What truth?” I curiously asked.
Rayden whispered. “You were never meant to be an Alpha”.
My heart pounded. “Never meant to be an Alpha? Is this an insult or what?”.
Rayden smirked. “Ask your mother. If she's still alive?”.
“What do you mean by" If she's still alive?” I became more confused.
He turned away. “Don't worry; with time; you’ll find out soon.” He took a few steps and stopped. “I never want any of these to happen, Ryder, but you have to know the truth”.
The truth?
What truth had been kept from me?
And why now?
