The Rogue's Obsession.

Ethan's pov. “She’s still alive,” Axel murmurs, stepping into the dimly lit cabin. I stiffen my hands, clenching my fist. “Are you sure of what you're saying?”. Axel nods. “The warrior confirms it; she has been receiving treatment from a stranger who was yet to be identified. Although she's weak but still alive”. A slow smile spreads across my face. So fate has finally decided to be kind to me. Luna. I lean back against the worn wooden chair, my finger tapping against the table. My heart pounds with a mixture of anticipation and rage. I should have taken her that night. I should have claimed what was mine before Ryder locked her away like some dirty little secrets. Ryder. The alpha who had been parading like a hero. But now I told the truth he had failed her. He left her to be forgotten and to suffer. I had never forgotten her; I had always been there, I never stopped looking, and I’ll never stop until I see her. And now I have finally had another chance. Axel clears his throat. “What's the plan now, Ethan?”. I slowly exhaled. “When the right time comes, we will take her. Don't worry about that, we’ll wait and watch” I silently moved through the trees as the air was thick with the cool night scent of pine. The packhouse is within sight, its windows glowing with warmth. I can see moving figures moving inside, but I don't care about them. My eyes only search for one person. Which is Luna. I could imagine this moment for years; seeing her again would be of great pleasure, touching her, whispering in her ear that I have never given up on her. Letting her know I am only the one who truly cares. My chest tightened. What if she doesn't remember? What if Ryder has poisoned her mind against mine? I returned to the camp the next morning with my mind racing with possibilities. Axel was already waiting for me. “How was the watch?” I smirk. “She may be alive and still there. It's only a matter of time now”. Axel hesitated before speaking up. “Are you sure this is the right way, Ethan?” what if she doesn't remember—”. “Why won't she remember?” I snapped, cutting him off. “She will remember; she has to.” Axel sighs but doesn't argue. He knows better. Luna belongs to me. She always has. I’m only the right person for her, not Ryder because I will do whatever it takes to make her see that. I took a slow deep breath and forced myself to calm down, then I slipped into the shadows once more. There was no room for mistakes this time; Ryder had lost his chance, he had proven himself unworthy, and I would not make the same mistake to repeat itself. I wouldn't do such a thing to her no matter the cost. “How? But she's yet to be found?” Axel's voice came from behind. I slightly turned to see the curiosity in Axel's eyes, he’s my second-in-command who stood a few feet away with his arms crossed, his sharp eyes watching me closely. He was one of the few people I trusted but even if he didn't fully understand my obsession with Luna. “I’ve never been more sure of anything,” I replied, my voice low and firm. Axel exhales, shaking his head. “This could go very wrong. If you're being caught by Ryder it will be a great battle—” “He won't,” I interrupted. “Even if he found out, I am ready to face him”. Axel gave me a skeptical look. “You're risking too much for one girl, Ethan”. I snarled at him. “She's not just one girl; she's mine and so special to me.” Silence fell between us. Axel knew better than to push me when I was like this. He might not understand, but he had never questioned my leadership and he wouldn't want to start now. After a long pause, he sighed. “What's the plan? And when are we executing such a plan?”. I smirked. “I’ve said this earlier on but I will say it again. We wait for the right time to strike if anyone stands in our way”. Axel didn't look convinced but he nodded. “Don't be blinded by your emotions”. I clenched my jaw. My emotions were the only thing keeping me going. As Axel disappeared into the shadows, I let my mind drift to the past. Luna and I had a connection—one that Ryder never understood. She had always looked at me differently and always smiled in a way that made my heart race. She was meant to be mine. But then Ryder, the so-called Alpha, took her away. He forced her into a life she never chose. I remember the night she disappeared. I had searched for her everywhere, but it was too late. Ryder had hidden her like a dirty secret, erasing every trace of her. For years, I thought she was gone forever. Until now. I wasn’t going to lose her again, even when she came back. I needed to remind Luna that I was still here, that I hadn’t forgotten about her so I pulled back from the shadows with a racing mind. An idea took shape forming a small smile on my lips. I would leave her a message. Something only she would understand. Something that would make her remember. By the time Ryder realized what was happening, it would be too late. I moved silently through the shadows, keeping to the trees as I watched the pack from a distance. Their patrols were predictable, their movements sloppy. Ryder had grown too comfortable. He thought he’d won. He thought wrong. I spotted a small cabin near the center of the pack’s land, guarded by only two wolves. They were distracted, talking about some upcoming event—something about Ryder preparing to make a public announcement. My jaw clenched. Was he planning to claim Luna as his mate again? Over my dead body. I waited for the right moment, then slipped past them, moving through the trees with practiced ease. My heart pounded as I got closer to the cabin. A single candle flickered in the window, casting a dim glow against the night. Once she remembered the truth—once she knew what Ryder had done—she would have no reason to hide. But a small voice in the back of my mind whispered a terrifying thought. What if she chooses Ryder?
