Sienna Reyes had walked into high-stakes meetings before.
She had sat across from billionaires, politicians, and corporate sharks who thrived on deception. She had learned how to keep her face unreadable, her voice steady, and her presence commanding, even when the odds were stacked against her.
But this meeting?
This was different.
Because today, she wasn’t just playing for leverage.
She was playing for survival.
The conference room was sleek and modern, with floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a panoramic view of the city skyline. Vanguard had chosen a neutral location, a high-end private club known for its discretion.
It was meant to put them at ease.
It didn’t.
Sienna arrived first, dressed in a fitted black suit that made her look as unshakable as she felt. Adrian entered moments later, his presence commanding as he took the seat beside her.
They hadn’t coordinated their outfits, but the effect was undeniable.
Two powerhouses. A united front.
Across the table sat Marcus Langley, CEO of Vanguard Holdings, his expression as smooth as ever. He was flanked by two of his top executives—one of whom, to Sienna’s growing fury, was Olivia Chang.
She schooled her features, pretending not to notice.
Adrian, for his part, didn’t so much as blink when Richard Vaughn strode in, taking a seat beside Marcus.
It was a bold move—parading their traitors in front of them, as if daring them to react.
Sienna smiled coolly.
Game on.
"Mr. Calloway. Ms. Reyes." Marcus greeted them smoothly. "I must say, I was surprised when I received your request for this meeting. Given our… recent history, I didn’t think you’d be interested in negotiating further."
Adrian leaned back in his chair, the picture of relaxed confidence. "We’re always interested in opportunities, Marcus. Especially when they benefit us."
"Of course," Marcus said. His gaze flickered briefly to Olivia and Vaughn. "But forgive me for my skepticism. Given the unfortunate setbacks on both your ends, I assumed your focus would be elsewhere."
There it was. The bait.
Sienna didn’t take it.
Instead, she reached into her folder and slid a document across the table. "A revised proposal," she said smoothly. "Considering recent market shifts, we believe these adjustments are necessary."
Marcus took his time glancing through the pages, though Sienna knew he wasn’t truly reading them. He was watching. Waiting.
And so was she.
She wasn’t expecting Marcus to react.
She was watching Olivia. Watching Vaughn.
And she didn’t miss the slight twitch of Vaughn’s fingers as he tapped against the table—a nervous tic.
Bingo.
The discussion continued, both sides dancing around the real reason they were there.
Adrian played his part well, deflecting where necessary, pressing where it counted.
But it was a carefully placed question from Sienna that finally made Vaughn slip.
"And of course," she said casually, "we’d expect the integrity of any agreement to remain intact. No… unexpected disruptions."
Vaughn stiffened, just slightly.
It lasted only a second, but Sienna caught it.
So did Adrian.
He leaned forward slightly, his expression unreadable. "That’s a fair expectation, isn’t it, Vaughn?"
The older man cleared his throat. "Naturally."
Sienna exchanged a glance with Adrian.
They had him.
The rest of the meeting passed in a blur, both sides agreeing to "consider" the proposal, though Sienna knew it was all for show.
By the time they exited the building, she felt the weight of the tension between them shift.
They hadn’t won yet.
But they had rattled the right people.
Adrian exhaled as they stepped outside. "Vaughn cracked."
Sienna nodded. "Now we just have to push him over the edge."
Adrian glanced at her, a slow, knowing smile tugging at his lips. "I have an idea."
Sienna arched a brow. "Do I even want to know?"
Adrian chuckled. "Probably not."
But as they walked away, Sienna knew one thing for certain.
They weren’t just reacting anymore.
They were taking control.
And whoever was behind this?
They were about to regret ever making a move against them.
