Chapter 14 Normani’s Justice Christa’s P.O.V. The clearing went dead quiet. The lake mirrored the moon above us, silver and calm, as if mocking the blood-soaked chaos at its edge. Javier wheezed on the ground, smoke rising from his charred skin, his eyes still burning with hate. Even half-dead, he sneered. “Do it. Kill me. You’ll be no better than the murderers you claim to hate.” Serenity’s claws lengthened, her chest heaving, golden eyes gleaming with vengeance. “You slaughtered Normani,” she snarled, voice shaking with rage. “You ambushed us in the dark and left her bleeding in my arms. This is justice.” She stepped forward, crouched low, her claws angling for his throat. Carlos staggered upright, burned and bloodied, but he didn’t move to stop her. His eyes found mine. “Christa… if you want him spared, you need to say it. Now.” My throat closed. The mark on my neck burned like fire, bond pulling me toward him even as my heart screamed for Normani. “Christa,” Aaliyah said sharply, her voice like the crack of a whip. She stood beside Serenity, her hands glowing faint red with spellfire, her face stone-hard. “Don’t you dare stand in our way. This is blood for blood.” Serenity’s claws pressed against Javier’s throat. His blood trickled, and still he laughed, hoarse and broken. “Pathetic rogues… you think killing me will save you? You’ll burn either way. My pack will hunt you all.” “Then let them try,” Serenity spat. With one savage strike, she drove her claws straight into his chest. Javier choked on his scream, eyes wide as blood bubbled from his lips. She ripped downward, shredding through flesh and bone until his heart thudded in her palm. She didn’t hesitate. She crushed it in her fist. The world stilled. His body convulsed once, then went limp, lifeless at her feet. Carlos’s roar tore through the clearing, half-man, half-wolf. His face twisted in agony, in rage, in grief, as he fell to his knees beside his brother’s corpse. His fists slammed into the dirt, cracking the ground, his wolf howling into the night. And me? I couldn’t breathe. My wolf clawed at me from the inside, torn between triumph and heartbreak, between bond and blood. Aaliyah’s magic crackled around her still, eyes blazing. “One debt paid,” she said coldly, her gaze cutting to Carlos. “But don’t think for a second this changes what you’ve done.” Carlos looked up, his eyes black as coal, locked on me. Betrayal burned in them, not for the sisters—but for me. “You let them do this,” he rasped, his voice breaking. “You stood there and let them kill my blood.” I shook, my body trembling with everything I couldn’t say. He was right. And he was wrong. And I was drowning in both truths. “I couldn’t stop them,” I whispered, though the words tasted like ash. “I wouldn’t.” Serenity stepped in front of me, protective even now, blood dripping from her claws. “She doesn’t owe you an explanation,” she hissed. “Not after everything.” Carlos surged to his feet, towering over us all, his wolf radiating fury. His gaze landed on me like a blade. “You’ve chosen, Christa. Don’t forget it.” But the truth was—deep inside, I hadn’t chosen at all. The mark burned, tying me to him, even as my heart bled for my sisters. And I knew this was only the beginning. Aaliyah’s P.O.V. The smell of blood still clung to the night air, heavy and metallic. Javier’s body lay sprawled on the earth like a broken effigy, the dirt beneath him soaking crimson. Serenity hadn’t said a word since she crushed his heart. She just stood there, chest rising and falling, eyes locked on nothing. Christa stood behind her, pale, shaking. The mark on her neck pulsed angry red, and I could feel her wolf pacing, restless, torn. She hadn’t lifted a hand to stop us. But she hadn’t joined in either. Carlos was another story. He was on his knees in the dirt, his massive frame trembling. His wolf flickered through his skin—black eyes, claws half-shifted, shoulders rippling with the threat of violence. But he didn’t strike. Didn’t lash out. He just sat there, staring at his brother’s corpse like he couldn’t believe it. The same brother who had just used him as a human shield why a moron! When his gaze finally lifted, it went straight to Christa. “You stood there,” he said, voice low, guttural, like it was dragging him apart. “You let them murder my blood.” Christa flinched. Her lips parted, but nothing came out. Her hands balled at her sides. I knew that look—my sister, always caught between rage and restraint. Always carrying too much. Serenity’s voice cracked the silence. “Your brother murdered ours. Normani bled out in my arms. Don’t speak to us about loss, Alpha.” Carlos’s wolf surged forward then, his aura slamming against us like a tidal wave. My own magic sparked to life in instinctive defense, crackling in my palms. For a heartbeat, I thought he’d rip Serenity apart right there. But then his gaze went back to Christa, and his fury faltered. “You’re mine,” he whispered to her, raw and broken. “And yet you chose them.” Christa’s voice finally found its way out, brittle and sharp. “I didn’t choose anyone tonight. Don’t you dare put this on me.” She lifted her chin, defiance warring with grief. “You marked me without asking. You tied me to you knowing what stood between us. Don’t act shocked when my blood claims their justice Javier was willing to let you f*****g die tonight pretty boy they did you a service”! Silence. Only the lap of water against the lake shore. Serenity bent down, wiped her bloodied claws on Javier’s shirt, and straightened. Her face was carved from stone. “We’re done here.” She walked past Christa, brushing her shoulder in a silent call to follow. I hesitated, watching my sister. Christa’s eyes lingered on Carlos—burning, torn, guilty, furious. She loved him. Saints, it was written all over her. And it was going to break her. Carlos staggered to his feet, rage simmering beneath the grief in his eyes. His voice was steel when he spoke again. “This isn’t over. You killed an Alpha’s blood on pack land. War will come for you.” Serenity didn’t even glance back. “Then let it come.” We disappeared into the trees, leaving behind Javier’s corpse, Carlos’s broken stare, and the bond that chained my sister to her enemy. And as the forest swallowed us, I realized one thing: Tonight wasn’t an ending. It was the spark of something far worse.
