Gahn grinned, Dahlia sprawled naked on the bed, the fireplace blazing. He’d kept her awake all night. She stirred, her hand reaching out blindly for him. He slid in beside her, tugging her close. “Still want to sleep,” she mumbled, half-conscious. He pulled the blanket over her, pressing a kiss to her neck. “Hmmm,” she sighed, already drifting. Gahn stayed up, watching her until her breathing evened out. Then, carefully, he slipped out of bed, threw his clothes on, and left. “How’s the prep going?” he asked. “Tonight’s the big party,” Heidi said, finally. “Got her the dress. Hope she likes it.” “Dahlia doesn’t care. She loves me, Mom.” Heidi cupped his face. “I’m happy for you, son. Seeing you both like this… Alice did the right thing. Where’s Dahlia?” “Sleeping, Mom.
