Chapter 46 I FORCED myself to walk back inside Winchester Mall, hair soaked in sweat, shirt glued to my skin, and dirt scraped into my knees. Absolute. I’d had it. Had a piece of it and let it get away. Never mind that I couldn’t possibly have stopped the alien with a club, or that this was only a tiny piece of it. That it hadn’t even condescended to notice me trying to murder it. Seeing the alien had resurrected my rage. Absolute had taken the Earth. It had overcome every defense the human race had raised against it. It had ignored everything from handguns up to thermonuclear bombs on land and plutonium in the ocean.
