Chapter 31 I DROPPED the pistol and raised my hands defensively. My overstrained biceps protested the effort. Even at this distance, the pyre of Ceren’s home washed heat across my bruised cheek. Suit stood still, eyes still fixed on me despite the fresh blood welling from his chest. Two Backs’ middle legs stirred. The female head groaned. I had to keep them occupied for another minute or two. Until Eric got back with the flamethrower. Suit took a step towards me. “Oh, come on!” I said. I needed that flamethrower. No—wait. Maybe I didn’t. I seized the top of the aluminum lawn chair I’d almost tripped over a second before, hoisting it above my head. Suit shambled towards me, one step, two steps, raising its arms. I strode at Suit and swung the lawn chair down onto his hollow head.
