Chapter 28 THE BRIGHT yellow fire truck roared down the empty Main Street, lights and sirens flashing. I tailgated, fuming with impatience but unwilling to try to swoop the heavy cruiser around the even heavier fire truck. If we’d had half a mile of straightaway, the cruiser could have eaten the road, but on this short stretch I’d only cut off the truck and slow it down. The fire was on Ceren’s street, on her block.
