CHAPTER FIFTEEN
LOGAN
Once the question leaves my lips, I feel guilty for asking. She pauses for a long time, and I try to change the subject, not wanting to pressure her. The rules were clear, we had to answer any question, but after seeing the expression on her face, I’m not so sure I want to know the answer.
We walk down the long flight of stairs then head down the trail back to the car. Kayla has been quiet and it begins to worry me. What if something terrible happened and that’s why she gave the baby up for adoption? It’s no secret she didn’t have the best childhood. Horrible scenarios flood through my head, and I want to punch myself for being insensitive. I know my girl, and she wouldn't keep something from me without a good reason.
