Chapter: 6 Never mine to begin with

I woke up, rested and incredibly hungry. Like I had not eaten for days, and I know how that feels, I have pulled my all nighters at the company, without food. 'We need to get you back,'' GW said. I nodded but was not actually fond of the idea, I waved goodbye to the black dragon and went outside, a blizzard was going. ‘wanna morph?’ GW said, I shook my head, I was having a hard time being me, but being two creatures seems too much of a task at the moment, and for some reason it felt sort of forced for her to ask. I got up on her back, I sat right in front of her wings, I could feel every time they went up and down. I laid down on her and just watched as the scenery went by, from cold stormy snow, to gentle breeze and trees in full bloom. When we arrived at the castle, GW let me slide down, I was having a headache and was really just in the mood for bed, ‘I need to go back’ GW said, I nodded, ofcause she did, why would she stay and help, it was not like I almost killed everyone before she took me away, that wont have consequences I am sure. “Let me know when I am to be an Aunt '' I said smiling at her ‘soon’ she said and flew off, I looked at where she had disappeared, for a few minutes when the whole yard was full of people. “My Queen” They all said, I was ignoring their scared yet relieved eyes. I swayed a bit inside and was going to the bed, but I had to get some food to get this dizziness to go away, all the once that greeted me was not even registered in my book, I was not going to play their game. I went to the kitchen and the chefs were ecstatic and talking about how good it was I was coming back, I ignored them too, took a loaf of bread and a pitcher of milk, then walked and ate at the same time, toward my bedroom. Outside the kitchen was Jules, Julia and about I would say 10 Majors, Lydia and Major Rude as two of them. “My Queen” Jules started but I just walked past them, they were confused as to why I was acting this way, honestly I was waiting to have swords at my throat. “My queen after Great White abducted you” Jules started, that I could not let pass. I stopped in my tracks about to get Jules right in my back, but he was able to pull a full stop. “First off, GW Did not abduct me, if she did anything she saved your sorry excuse of a life” I stated, all my fear of them retaliating for me having harmed them was all gone. “And second you keep referring to some Queen, but I don't see anyone treated as a Queen present, maybe you should go and dust up the ‘real’ royal family so that you can show some respect to someone” I left and walked to my room, I stopped right before going in. looking at it. “Maybe I should sleep somewhere else” I said, rather low since I was not really expecting them to follow me. “Why my Queen?” Julia asked behind me, actually scaring me a little. “Well, this is a room for the ruler right? then maybe I should sleep somewhere else” I said, again more to me than to anyone else. And just as a maid walked by. “Excuse me miss maid?” I asked, the maid bowed and waited for me. “When guests arrive at the castle, where do they stay?” She looked up at me, and where I would expect her to look at Jules and Julia, she kept her look at me. “The guest huts My Queen” She said. I nodded and took another bite of the bread. “Could you please show me the way to the hut where you put the lowest rank guests?” She bowed and nodded, she walked off, not looking at any of the Majors, she was actually listening to me, that was a first. As we walked I finished my milk and bread, we walked quite a while before reaching a tiny hut maybe only the size of a student apartment. “This is the resting place for coachmen when arriving with guests.” The maid said. “Well then, guess this is my house now” I said, looking at the shabby roofing and the wooden walls. The maid bowed, “If I may” She said and I thought why the hell not. “Yes?” I said, the maid stood up. “Would my Queen like for her clothing to be placed in the hut?” She was stoic and I loved it, she was going along with me like a real subject would. “Only the clothing I bought here. Since the rest is not mine” I had ignored the confused and stunned gazes from behind us, the maid bowed and went off to fetch my cloth. “You cannot be serious” Julia said, I snicker. “Why? this is the place that suits my rank among us right?” I said, not as much as a question but as a statement. Julia was stunned. “Now you can go into my offi… wait, now you can go into the rulers office and do whatever the hell you want, not that you didn't do that in the first place.” I said and opened the little door to the hut, it was squeaking but it did not smell like mold so for all accounts it was an okay place. “And, you don't need to put up charades to the public that you actually give a fuck.” I looked some more inside the hut, it had a bed, a counter and a closet. and a small toilet in the back. “What do you mean queen?” Jules asked but I ignored him, actually just because I did not care anymore. The maid came back out of breath while holding my clothing. “Here you are my Queen.” I smiled, “thank you, what is your name?” I asked, and the maid was stunned and shy at the same time. “Lara” She said, I nodded. “Thank you Lara, but no need to keep up the formalities. Noone else does” she was confused. “Whatever do you mean?” She was confused, and the whole time never looking back to Jules and Julia. “Do you wanna know a secret. You are the first person in this entire realm that has followed my commands when I said them, and not disrespecting me by looking at The Sergeant Major or Miss Lawyer over there if you are to follow my words or not.” I smiled at her and she was completely lost. She looked down at the ground and back up. “Im sorry my Queen, but that cannot be true, you are the Queen our late King choose to rule over us, so the Sergeant Major and Miss Lawyer should be the first to show respect since it was the late King that is the reason why they are still alive, after he said they were worthy subjects.” She was out of breath, and what she had said had made Jules and Julia very uncomfortable. “Truth and logic do not always follow hand in hand.” I said, I dismissed Lara and walked into my hut. “You have nothing to say?” Major Rude sounded lost and confused. “Even if I say something, it's not like you listen” I closed the door, and went to bed. I had only laid down on it, my eyes shut and I was off to a horrible nightmare of a time where I died as a small girl in a car accident.

I woke up the next morning feeling anything but fresh, I did not know what the time was, but I guessed around 4am, I peed and decided to go and figure out how to get food. I could always hunt down rabbits I guess. I got out of the front door and there they were, Sergeant Major Jules, Major Rude, Major Lydia and the 3 other Majors from the 40th to the 45th platoon. I roll my eyes and walk out, I turn to the forest figuring what rabbit it will be. I walk around hearing the Majors calling after me, or well the Queen they still have not found. I walk to a lake and there it is, a plumb rabbit just laying there sunbathing. The majors catch up with me after I have already gotten the rabbit in my hands, Lydia looks confused at me, I just walk past them, a skill I have now perfected if I may say so myself. I walk back to the Hut where Jules and Major Rude are sitting. “wanted a pet?” Jules asked, confused by the rabbit, I acknowledge his present as I turn to him smiling and then snapping the rabbits neck. “Breakfast” I say and turn away again. Their minds were gone, they did not know what hit them. I took the bunny and twisted the head so it tore from the rest of the body. I pulled out the intestines and bled the rabbit on a stick while I was making the fire. “My Queen” Jules said, again I ignored him, him really not getting the message. I looked at the intestine and was thinking of GW, wondering if she would have eaten them if she was here. And as if she knew my thoughts her mate came landing by the huts, the Majors all drew their swords ready to fight the unknown dragon, but they did not go near it. I walked over to him and gave him the still warm intestine, he took them in his mouth, nuzzled me and flew off. “What the hell was that?” Major Rude asked as he looked for the black dragon. “A sacrifice” I said, mostly in fun but they were buying it. “I'm colluding with wild dragons to get me out of here” Again mostly just for fun, but the reaction turned everything into a very serious conversation, all of the warriors that were present went to their knees and showed their respect. “We apologize for questioning our ruler, and our former ruler's choice for a successor.” Jules said, the others still on the ground beside him. I was confused, “so?” I asked, Jules looked confused at me following the other doing the same. “So!?” Major Rude said, “Yes so, want me to accept your apology just to do something you need to apologize for again, sure I accept” I say and turn to the now bled rabbit, I tear off the fur and place it on a stick beside the fire. I sit down on the ground, the people still on their knees confused about what I did, or said or anything really. “You accept our apology but?” Jules said. “No but '' I say as I look into the fire thinking about GW eating my gift, as if we were sharing a meal together. “But we are showing honor to you” I was brought out of my happy place with a weird sentence. “honor?” I ask, and they all nod. “You are aware I have seen you guys doing that so many times now that it just feels like it's something you do to get on with your lives” They looked between one another. “But my Queen, we are submitting to you” Lydia said, I just shrugged. “Okay, I'll bite. What is it you want me to do? taxes?” This conversation was confusing. “what?” Lydia asked. “Well you see me as your puppet right, to get what you want but then show me my standing in the castle right after. So I'm asking, What is the work you need the ‘Queen’ to do for you to leave me alone?” Lydia had her mouth right open, gasping like a fish on land trying to get air. “We never” I stopped Jules right there. “Bull s**t” I said. “You always use me for something, and whenever I do something you are not agreeing with, you just undermine my authority and whatever the hell you want. Now I'm just making it easy for you. What do you want me to do?” Jules stood up and sat beside me in front of the fire. I was starting to turn the rabbit so it could be done on all sides. “But you my Queen said to be friends” Jules said, I nodded. “I told that to Miss Lawyer too, but when I gave her the choice she decided to be mis Lawyer instead of Julia the friend of” I stopped myself. “Do you even know my name Jules?” he looked puzzled at me, the other Majors had followed his move by sitting around the table. I smile at Jules “I know I was introduced to you by my name. But do you actually know my name or is My Queen just your way of dismissing me?” He was silent, and all blood fell from his face. The silence continued for a while, then Lara came running. “My Queen,” She said, totally out of breath. “I brought you food” She said and looked at the fire, “Maybe I overstepped?” She asked, I shook my head. “Nope it's fine thank you” She waved to someone and more maids brought food on trays. “You feeding a whole army?” I asked jokingly, they had probably just gotten food here for the Majors as well. “No my Queen, you have been with your dragon for 3 weeks, you should eat” I dropped the bun I had taken from the tray. “3…3 weeks?” I asked, Lara looked at me dead in the eyes “Yes my Queen, you were taken 3 weeks ago, and knowing how Great White is, and where she resides food must have been scarce.” She was serious, f**k I thought. I had been sleeping for 3 weeks? in an ice cave? the two horny dragons better not have done anything while I was laying on GW Jesus. My head was going a million miles an hour when Lydia came over. “You did not know?” I looked at her. “Why does it matter if I knew or not?” I was getting annoyed again, I guess GW Just let me sleep but she could have told me. “It matters because it would mean you did not abandon us” I turned around looking at lydia, “do you even know what abandon means?” Lydia stood straight waiting for me to answer my own question. “It means leaving something behind, something that was yours to begin with” I started looking around me. “Nothing here was mine, ever.”
