Chapter 7
When they returned from the garden Lia felt something begin to rush at her and swiftly stepped to the side. She got into a defensive position as she heard something large hit the floor with a thud.
“Oh, my goddess! Are you okay!” J exclaimed. LIa softened her stance confused.
“Sorry Lia, I got too excited.” Wait…. She recognized that voice…
“Chelse!” She reached for her friend. Lia felt a tug on her arm and allowed herself to be pulled into Chelsea’s arms.
“You have no idea how worried I’ve been!”
“I know Chelse. Trust me I know. I’ve been worried about you too.”
Lia spoke calmly, but Chelsea didn’t miss the sigh of relief her best friend had as she spoke those words. The pair had hardly been apart from each other since Lia went blind. Even before that incident, they were inseparable. They had done everything together all their lives. That codependence only got worse after the incident.
“They think you’ve been totally fine since I left don’t they.” She nodded her head towards the two males behind her. They had been watching in utter confusion as the pair displayed more emotion than they had seen in a very long time. While Lia was in Chelsea’s lap nonetheless. The two of them hadn’t even seemed to notice how intimate their position was as they chatted away.
Lia shrugged. “How should I know what they think?” Did she sound almost… arrogant?
Chelsea laughed boisterously. “So that’s a yes. How are you doing here? Has he been rude? Mean? Has he done anything inappropriate? What about the kid? Is he a prat? Do I need to put him in his place?”
It was then that J heard the most intoxicating sound he had ever heard in his life. She laughed. Lia laughed the same as anyone else, but for some reason, he wished it would never end. As soon as she calmed down he missed it, practically craved to hear it again. The way she smiled made him feel like nothing could ever be wrong with the world. He couldn’t hear anything after that. The world was muffled as he was entranced by that smile. She looked so light, relaxed like nothing could ever harm or bother her for she was that transcended through the world. J felt like his world would never be the same again. He understood all too clearly what this was… and he wasn’t sure that he was ready for it.
