Mama's Faith

Chapter one

Mama is a wonderful person, no wonder she is blessed for all her hard work towards outsider's and her children equally.she laboured till her old age for God and for her finances, true fully speaking, she was never a lazy woman. All her labour has brought tons of ripe fruit, two of her children are happily married with children and the last boy is engaged, she is blessed and it can be seen in the life of her children financially, morally and others. If it's in the morning and you live in the house of Ms Peculiar Adams, then you don't need an alarm to wake you up because the woman herself is an alarm. Ms Peculiar Adams also known as Mama because no one calls her by her name but rather that title because of her benevolence. She can not be around and someone is hungry,needy or going astray, all is her business. As the saying goes a good woman is better than riches, so is the description of Mama, wherever she is prosper.

As the day breaks, Mama will sing praises walking all through the house so that all her children will wake and come to the sitting room where they will do their daily devotion. Mama will take her time in praying for her children one after the other before she will advise on what is right or wrong. She taught her children the way of God and to always turn to God if things are not going well, Mama happens to be a strong worker in church, she never fails to clean the church even though she has so many business and responsibility. Though now she is old and her children are all out of her house, she still follow the same pattern.

At her old age, Mama's children made sure she is financially strong and comfortable with her own modern house and car. Her joy knew no boundaries nor did her prayers for them, she always pray and fast for her children like a crazy woman. Her dues, prayers,tithe are always paid,she gave happily in the best way she could but as everyone knows the plans of God are different from the plans of man.

It was early in the morning that a call came through Mama's phone with a devastating news, the news was about her son's death through food poison,the news was strong and held her to the ground because she never expect sure life damaging news. She couldn't hold herself from crying, while she was crying her daughter who have confirmed the news came back so they could comfort each other. In the midst of their sorrow came more sorrowful news, Ha! fate was not through with with Mama, as they cried for one disturbing news another came that that her last child who was out of the country for business met with a crash. Infact, Mama's daughter who answered the call didn't know how to voice the news, truefully life is no play ground.

Mama cried and cried but nothing happened,she beat her chest and asked who has turned her sweet wine into bitter lemon. She unconsciously doubt God,she cursed her unknown enemy and said alot of things she would not remember because she was totally drunk with sorrow, still it seems like all what has happened in one day is just the beginning of it all.

The following week after that Godforsaken day, a meeting was arranged so that the discussion for the burial of Mama's sons will be discussed. On that fateful day, Mama sat down looking awful because of how poorly she cared for herself, she was half the woman everyone knew and loved. As the meeting commerced Mama noticed the hateful looks she was given by her daughter but said nothing on it, towards the end of the meeting her daughter could not hold herself anymore so she lashed at Mama with hateful words,cursed and an accusation of killing their brothers, she continued to emphasize that Mama is a witch and it was confirmed in a church they visited. The more words were spoken,the more Mama's heart breaks for she could not believe that the children she labour for all through her youth could accuse herof sure diobolic things. At that moment the mourning daughter in law was not pleased at all with the unpleasant situation of her life and seeks anything or anyone to hold responsible for her husband death,she threw herself at the feet of Mama begging her to end her misery too. It took a lot of physical strength to separate her from the already traumatized Mama.

In the safety of her room, Mama cried deeply, she asked God why her, she wept bitterly without food or water begging God to tell her her mistake so that she can rectify it. Surely after days and nights in her misery she found her answer. She found out that God is testing her faith like Job in the Bible and she has failed miserably by doubting and cursing God's name. Mama remembered how she asked why her, then she started thinking that if these things didn't happen to her then who is it suppose to happen to. She thought hard and finally came to a conclusion that she could not wish anybody to be in her situation nor experience half the things she has passed through. She called her daughter but she refused to answer her but whenever she answer insults and accusations will be thrown at her but she always forgive her.

Six months later of this horrible treatment,God intervene in a way she never expected. Mama was sitting outside her house under her avalcado tree when a vehicle drove into the compound. When the gate man who open the gate of the house saw the occupants of the car,he shouted at the fearful sight and ran away screaming ghost! ghost!! ghost!!!.

Truly God is amazing, for the sight that greeted the age woman frozed her to her chair,she refused to blink or breath. Mama's eyes were set on the faces of her sons who were presumed dead, she did nothing but look until she was enveloped in the embraced her sons. When she gained control of herself, she took note of something very important,"they just hugged her and that means they are flesh and blood, and that also means that they are very much alive". They cried together, pouring their hearts out for it was a sight of true reunion. After that sentimental reunion, they broke apart with a promise to reveal all that has transpired in the long period of her suffering.

Their explanation did not matter to Mama instead she knelt down praising God for making her life a duplicate of Job and also for proving her innocence. In the midst of her self party and praises she cried, all the thankfulness she poured out from the depth of her heart was expected due to the gravity of the situation. Mama was on her knees when she asked the heaven's this "how can something this good happen to somebody like me".

Her first son (Austin), explained how he caught his wife putting something in his food and he decided to take matters into his hand and give the food to his dog,after which he left the house with his dog. He took the dog to the vet who confirmed that the dog has been poisoned and commerced treatment on the dog immediately. Austin explained how disheartened he was by the news but gave thanks to God before explain the issue to a friend who advised him to pretend to be dead to find out exactly what his wife is up to, Austin further explained how he took the advice of his friend and made arrangements with the doctor after explaining everything to the doctor,his doctor agreed on helping him if he got the police involved. He did everything as advised by his friend, doctor and the police and finally found out that his family is false. His wife is in a relationship with somebody else and that was why she wanted him out of the picture, so she could be with her lover properly.The most heartbreaking thing in this world is to know that the person you love is trying to kill you,after everything i watched my wife sell my properties to the police in charge of my case. She toke the money to her so call lover who ran away with everything but was later cauht by police. One thing i won't forget was the look on her face when Amaka saw me on the day she was arrested.

Austin went on his knees asking for forgiveness because he caused himself and his mother disgrace thus why he could not show his face to his mother or sisters, he emphasized on the fact that if he had agreed with his mother and went through marriage counseling he would not have brought such disgrace to the family.

Mama smiled at Austin, telling him that all is well and that the Lord has better plans for him that is why He is weeding out everything bad in his life . Austin was still sorrowful but was surprised that Mama has shown same emotion since and that was joy and contentment not even the slightest sign of sadness,anger, betrayal or terror over the issue.

Christian (Mama's second son) didn't waste time,he started his story on everything that happened on his part, He explained how he was arrested by migration officials and transferred to the state police head quarter under the impression of carrying harmful drugs, he was detained for two months before given permission to call his lawyer, that was when he call Austin,who started helping his on the case until recently when it finally came out to be false alarm/proof. The person that framed him wanted to gain recognition and set up Christian as his bait.

Mama fell silent, she said God just wanted to proof himself one's again in their lives.Mama further explained that if Austin's wife had not try to poison him,he would never discover that she was unfaithful and if the migration officer had not set up Christian he would have been in the plane that crashed. Austin and Christian realized that the Lord has spared them alot of sorrows and misery but they apologized for whatever misery or sadness they put they mother in the past few months that has past.

Mama laughed and explained her own challenges in the past six months,she explained how she took the news and how it drain her physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. She also explained how her daughter (Elizabeth) reacted along with Amaka (Austin's wife), she explained how the whole thing crushed her but never separated completely from God. She explained her reunion with God and how she has tried all possible ways to salvage their relationship but failed miserably.

At that moment, Austin has never been as angry as he was the moment he heard of his sister's atrocities, he knew about his sister's recklessness and stupidity in different issues but he never belief that she could be that stupid towards her own mother. He felt shame of calling her his sister all this year's, Austin could not understand how Elizabeth could bite the finger that fed her. In his anger he called Elizabeth's phone but didn't give her time to speak before throwing vile words at her and disowning her through the phone, not even waiting for her response he ended the call and threw the phone in anger.

Mama tried calming the situation by explaining that she is not angry instead she has forgiven everyone that offended her over this issue. Christian who has been quiet all through Mama's explanation suddenly started laughing, he told them that if he sees Elizabeth he would beat her so bad that she will forget her own name. Mama immediately called them to order and advised that they shouldn't start fighting when God has just saved them from sorrow, instead they should come together and thank God as a family. As soon as she finished advising them Elizabeth drove into the compound crying, Elizabeth ran straight to Mama asking for forgiveness stating that she doesn't know how Amaka put her against her own mother. Mama forgave her and convinced her brothers to forgive her, they all knelt down and prayed together as a family for the first in a long time this rededicating their lives to Christ.

In a farway place, a beautiful woman sits in regret of how she has live her life and the choices she made. She never thought the one she love could betray her like that, but sincerely she blames no one because she had sparkling diamond but she was fighting to get a sparkling glass, just imagine trying to kill a man that loves you with everything for a man that pretends to love you. She can't even remember the reason this madness started or even why it started. She can still hear the cries of that poor old woman, although she was surprised at how fast she could destroy the relationship between the mother and daughter, only if she had mother like Austin's. The law of karma is really strange was the last thought she had before sleep took her.
